How big is too big?

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): How big is too big?
By Palmbchprincess on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 12:31 am:

Check out this new truck, WAY bigger than the H1, and being sold as a private vehicle. Luckily, the price tag means very few will be able to afford it.
Bad Boy Truck
Hummer vehicles
At what point is a truck too big to be a normal vehicle? I think these trucks are larger enough that you should be required to carry a CDL to drive it. You can't drive a rig, even if it's your own, unless you have a CDL. What's the difference here? I think the H2, which is more like a regular SUV, is still a bit too much for a street vehicle. I'm seeing a lot more of these around town as guys are spending the money they saved up in Iraq, and want something "special". People have enough trouble driving these big, honkin' H2s... how in the world are they going to safely control the Bad Boy truck? The H1 is just a private version of a military humvee, but you don't see as many of them on the road. I'm all for SUVs, but this is ridiculous, IMO

By Feona on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 06:35 am:

Perhaps there should be an extra tax on larger vehicles? I have seen these.... Some people have too much money around here....

I think there are some sort of tax credit if you by a car that is partially recharable... Hybrids.

I think we will look at the hybrids next time we need a car. Enough with the middle east already. Let them keep their oil.

By My2cuties on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 10:13 am:

Give me a break, this is ridiculous. DH would laugh. Some of the boys here in town drive these big dodge trucks and put stacks on them and DH just cracks up..he drives a REAL truck, everything else he calls a pick-up. If these boys want to drive a truck then they need to know how to drive it SO study to get their CDL.

This will probably not last very long even if some people have $225,000, I am sure the wrecks because of these people with no idea how to keep it in the road will get it outlawed, at least I hope.

Oh well I guess we will see how things go. :)

By Sunny on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 10:19 am:

I'm getting a 404 page. :(

But, I think it's more a status thing than anything else. It's the old "my toy is bigger and more expensive, so it must be better than yours" attitude. :)

By Dawnk777 on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 10:56 am:

Try these!

Bad Boy Trucks

Hummer Vehicles

DH just told me about another one.

Another big truck

I wouldn't want one. I'm perfectly happy driving my sedans!

Good grief. The international CXT truck costs as much as my house did! Yeah, I'll take a dozen at $93K a pop! (not)

By Colette on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 10:58 am:

I am getting the 404 page as well, but I think it's just stupid. How pathetic can you be that you need a truck like this to make you feel good about yourself.

Feona, 2 of my aunts and my dad drive hybrids. They love them. We'll be going that way with our next car.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 11:00 am:

I made new links and they work now. Try again!

By Palmbchprincess on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 01:39 pm:

Hmmm.. sorry about the bad links... I forgot to "test" them!! I just really think it's dangerous to allow any ol' rich person to drive one of these trucks. I won't even drive a Uhaul, I made Nate drive when we moved since he was trained on large trucks in the military. People are gonna get killed in accidents with these, imagine a Prelude v. Bad Boy accident... yikes! As for the hybrids, I'd love to own one. We have a diesel, and were looking at using biodiesel fuel (made from used veg/soybean oil, burns cleaner) but it's $3 bucks a gallon, and I'd have to drive a half hour to fill up. Hopefully, they will be able to come up with an affordable, renewable, clean fuel like that for all vehicles.

By Conni on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 03:01 pm:

Omg thats hilarious! I cant believe they are coming out with these. Ridiculous!!

I test drove an H2 when they came out. I liked it- it was really nice. But SO impractical to drive the kids around in everyday. There are many Mom's here that drive them tho. I'd rather have a 4 door pick up personally. But we decided to pay off my van this yr and be done with car pymts for awhile. :)

We know a guy that bought an H2, drove it home and couldnt fit it in his garage. rofl!!!!

The trucks you posted are going WAY overboard. I am thinking they wont be a big hit in my area. We'll see tho.

By Missmudd on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 03:11 pm:

Why in the world do you want a truck that you have to crawl in and fall out of... Sheesh, me I would love to go smaller than my caravan. Really is anyone of the female set really impressed by these things?

By Dawnk777 on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 04:53 pm:

Nope, not impressed! We are contributing to a better environment with the TDI Passat we just bought. We took a road trip over the weekend and got 38 miles to the gallon with the diesel fuel. Our other gasoline cars don't get that kind of mileage!

By Palmbchprincess on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 08:03 pm:

Dawn, you'll love your TDI. Our's (01 Jetta) can get up to 50 miles/gal on highway, and though it is loud, VW did a pretty good job soundproofing inside. The biodiesel I mentioned above can be used in any diesel engine (without a conversion kit), but like I said, we haven't had the opportunity to try it. Passats are so much roomier, I'm jealous!

By Dawnk777 on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 09:44 pm:

We do love it so far! It is the most luxurious car we have ever owned. We have three cars now, since we didn't trade in a car to get the Passat. We wanted to keep the older cars, since Sarah will be learning how to drive soon!

Oh, and it's our first car with a sunroof and we already love it! Whenever we get too warm in the car, we just pop up the sunroof and the hot air leaves and we are more comfy.
