Rosie and her daughter

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): Rosie and her daughter
By Angellew on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 - 09:59 am:

Rosie's daughter with Ammo

I used to be a fan of Rosie back in her talk show day. But, after the show was over, she turned into a negative, contradictory person. Celebrities she once couldn't get enough of, she now talks about like they were trash. Which tells me that the Rosie we were seeing on the talk show was nothing but a farce! And now this. I remember her telling then NFA President Charlton Heston or Tom Selleck that she would "never let a child of hers play with guns". Well... like all things Rosie, I guess that has changed too!

I'm very interested to hear what you guys think!

By Vicki on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 - 10:04 am:

My honest opinion, Rosie needs some serious treatment. She does not seem to me to be in a good place. She is very harsh and abrasive and defensive about everything in her world. I really do think she has a serious chemical imbalance in her system and needs to seek both medical and mental help.

By Dancermom on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 - 10:26 am:

I'm on the fence with Rosie.

Personally I think she cares TOO MUCH if that's possible. When she is passionate about something she gets unreasonable. But I honestly think it's because she cares so much.

When I opened her blog yesterday I was completely stunned seeing that picture of her daughter. It upset me.

By Breann on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 - 04:08 pm:

I'm on the fence too. I used to really enjoy her, but I think something about her has changed over the past few years.

I agree with Dancermom, that she may just care too much. She is very passionate about certain things, and she gets frustrated when people can't understand her views.

I think that the expression on the little girls face is part of what is evoking such rage about the photo. If she were smiling and being silly, it may be viewed differently. It's a pretty powerful statement in itself.

I liked this statement that she made:
"It's fascinating to me/that an image of a child dressed up as a soldier/evokes so much attention/yet the real soldiers - their deaths - their wounded bodies/doesn't seem to faze most/or make news,"

By Imamommyx4 on Thursday, June 28, 2007 - 01:22 pm:

I'm not on the fence with Rosie at all. I think she's nuts and two faced. Fine if she's passionate against guns. I diagree with her about that, too. But then to turn around and purchase a costume like that for your dd. Doesn't make sense to me at all.

I know for a fact that you can't make children not want to play with guns. I've taught Sunday school and watched my dd's friends who are boys. Most parents are anti-gun. But they will use their fingers or make leggos or whatever in to weapons and pretend to play cops and robber or cowboys or war games. But these anti-gun parents wouldn't purchase outfits like that for their kids and then post the pics on the net for pure shock value.

Rosie screams anti-gun and anti-war sentiments out of one side of her face and then buys and post this kind of garbage out of the other side. She's either doing it for attention or she's just nuts.

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, June 28, 2007 - 04:01 pm:

My first impression of the little girl- she doesn't look like an American soldier, she looks more like a terrorist.

My impression of Rosie- she can dish out all the criticism she can muster, but she can't take it.

Ditto Cocoabutter!

I have never really liked Rosie all that much, and have always found her to be abrasive.

ditto karen and cocoabutter.

Here are my thoughts....My 7 yr. old ds LOVES "camo" clothes, loves to play army with his brother and neighborhood friends. My kids have been soliders for Halloween, they have also been the "Scream" movie villan, a crazy doctor with fake blood, and the grim reaper. This IMO is dress-up. Most of you will probebly disagree with me on this issue. I think Rosie gets looked upon as a terrible mother because she is in the spotlight. The media wasn't on my doorstep waiting to see my kids wearing army clothing, people could care less about us. Of course I don't know Rosie, but I think she loves her children dearly, and like any mother has their best interest in mind. I think what matters is what you tell your kids, how you explain things. My kids love to play with water guns, but they know that real guns can kill and to never touch one. I've never allowed guns in our home. My dh has one that I make him keep at his parents home :) Rosie has stated on her web site that this was just her kids playing dress up. There were several pics of them in different outfits. Actually she said that not too long ago her son had on an army outfit and not one word was said from the media about that. I just think it was a powerfull picture, if the little girl would have been laughing and smiling at the camera there might have been a different reaction. Again just my opinion.

Ditto. Add in that she's had to face a lot of crap, some of it pretty awful, because she speaks out, because of her weight and because she's gay and I think it's predictible that she comes off as harsh and abrasive. I think it's a little more jarring because it's a woman though. I don't see anyone suggesting Howard Stern or Bill O'Reilly have a chemical imbalance in need of treatment after all.

I admire her fearlessness. She must know she's going to cause herself trouble, occasionally be embarrassed and yet she keeps provoking discussion and making comments on issues of importance to her.

Well, the reason I didn't suggest that is because no one asked about those people or anyone else, this thread was/is about Rosie and the photo. I really don't have the time to list everyone I feel could do well with a evaluation, medication and or treatment! LOL

I very much agree with this "My impression of Rosie- she can dish out all the criticism she can muster, but she can't take it."

If she is so eager and willing to speak out against everyone and everything she is against, than she SHOULD be more understanding when people do it to her. If that is her right, than she should understand it is others right to do it to her also and that she is going to face a lot of crap. She takes crap because she dishes crap. Instead, she had become harsh and abrasive because she doesn't think she should have to take it.

She is in the spotlight because she puts herself there. Plain and simple. Lots of people speak out and let their opinions knows, but they don't do it in the same way that she does. There is a big difference between being passionate about something and taking it way over the top. She either chooses to take it over the top, or she can't control herself. Either way, she does it to herself and honestly, I think she does it on purpose to get the media attention. If she would take it down an few notches, she could easily blend away if she wanted to. It is a choice she makes.

Think about it, how much did you really hear about her before she went on The View? I know I didn't hear much at all about her before then. BUT, she went on the show and day after day took her opinions way over the top. She was in the news on a weekly basis. Now, I do believe that was her purpose on the show for ratings myself, but that is beside the point. Again, choices.

This is when I started disagreeing with Rosie. I noticed during her fights with Elizabeth she could be such a jerk.

She could bulldoze everyone with her opinion and if someone didn't agree with her they were "young and ignorant"

I use to watch Rosie on her show and thought it was really good.

She admits Columbine really changed her, that's when I noticed her aggressive behavior.

Personally, I think if anyone is put under the microscope on a daily basis we could all appear pretty nuts. It just depends on how details are presented. And I'm not defending Ro but I can see how all the personal attacks could make someone a bit wacky.

Vicki, your comment here:

is hysterical!!!! Thanks for the laugh! :)

By Cocoabutter on Friday, June 29, 2007 - 03:33 pm:

Ditto, Vicki!

And dress-up or not, the girl looks more like a terrorist than an American Soldier, and I would not have chosen that pic to post on the world wide web.

I could see myself being that way if I ever had to sit down and discuss something with Elizabeth. Not freshest patty in the pasture IMO. :)
