The core value in the United States!

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): The core value in the United States!

I was curious as to how the moms here rank these values in how important they are in our society to you. Do you have any values that you would add? Do you feel any listed should not be on the list?
I found this an interesting subject in my Sociology class and thought I would bring it to the boards!

1. Equal oppurtunity
@. Achievement and success
3. Efficiency and practicality
4. Material comfort
5. Activity and work
6. Science and reason over faith
7.Democracy and free enterprise

:) Its not really a debate but I figured it didn't really fit under the other discussion topics.

Add:
1. Freedom of speech, assembly, and religion, and a media which, no matter how low it sinks sometimes, still tries to investigate and inform.
2. Protection for the rights of persons considered minorities (women, African-Americans, Hispanics, Homosexuals - anyone who isn't a straight white male)
3. Courts intended to be free of political influence and not controlled by the "popular" opinion.
4. No matter how poorly it works sometimes, a concern for the most vulnerable in our society, the elderly (through Social Security and Medicare), the poor, through welfare programs.
5. A political system which, no matter what one thinks of it, allows us to change the direction in which our nation is going without guns.

I don't see "Science and reason over faith" as a value. I value science and reason, and I also value faith. I recognize that in the minds and beliefs of some they are opposed, but I don't believe they are or need to be.
