My husband's daughter had a beautiful baby boy a week ago that was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He did so good through the surgery but after they closed his chest up (about 2 days later)he went into heart failure and is now only alive due to life support. It does not look good for him. He also has bleeding on the brain. Please keep his family and him in your prayers. Thanks so much.

Thanks everyone. Yesterday they replaced a shunt in his heart with a larger one and it seems to be doing the trick. He is off of the life support at the moment and is doing better. The next hurdle will be when they try to close his chest again. I will keep you up to date when I hear. Thanks again for the few of you that did respond.

I just wanted to update yall on Nick. He has taken a turn for the worse and has had very little progress. The doctors were saying that the only thing that is going to help Nick is to have a heart lung transplant. Now they are saying that his liver and kidneys would not hold up for surgery like that. His parents were told last week that they need to make some hard decisions about how long they are willing to keep him on life support. They have decided to take Nick off of all breathing machines on Saturday. So we are going this weekend to say our good byes, as the doctor put it, and of course be with my husbands daughter and son in law. I can't image what that is like for a parent. Please keep them in your prayers. I have not always had the best relationship with his daughter, although in the past couple of years, it has gotten better. I hope that I can be of some comfort to them.

This is an update on a message board the hospital has set up for patients. Thanks everyone.

WELL, THINGS ARE STILL NOT GOING VERY WELL. NICK HAD ANOTHER SET BACK. EVER SINCE 2:00 THIS MORNING HE HAD BEEN JUST STEADILY GOING DOWN. HIS BLOOD GAS'S KEPT GETTING WORSE, HIS HEART RATE WAS LOW, AND SO WAS HIS BLOOD PRESSURE. HIS OXYGEN STATS WERE IN THE 40'S AND 50'S. THEY SHOULD BE IN THE HIGH 90'S. HE IS JUST HAVING A VERY HARD TIME RECOVERING. THEY PULLED 180 CC'S OF FLUID OFF OF HIS BELLY. WHICH IS ABOUT 3 1/2 OUNCES. HE IS STILL VERY SICK. THEY HAVE HIM ON 100% OXYGEN RIGHT NOW AND HIS STATS ARE ONLY IN THE 70'S. I HOPE THAT HE CAN MAKE A TURN AROUND. BUT, I CAN TELL THAT HE IS VERY TIRED AND VERY SICK. I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND WHY HE HAS TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THIS. I GUESS ONE DAY I WILL. BUT, FOR RIGHT NOW IT'S HARD TO SEE MY SON IN HIS CURRENT CONDITION. SO, PLEASE REMEMBER HIM IN YOUR PRAYERS AS YOU ALL ALWAYS DO.
