Beauty Recipies

To give or keep!

Lip Balm
2 ½ tsp. beeswax
7 tsp. oil-I use safflower oil for the high vitamin E content, but you
could use sweet almond oil
1 tsp. honey
A few drops of a flavoring oil-I use the flavoring oils available in cake decorating stores, but you could use essential oils as long as they are edible.

Melt the oil and the beeswax together in the microwave, or on the top of a double boiler. Take off the heat and add the honey, stirring vigorously. When the mixture cools down some add your flavoring and pour into a small container.

Cocoa Butter Lip Balm:
2.5 oz cocoa butter
2.6 oz beeswax
1.4 oz sweet almond oil

Melt all together in the microwave or double boiler, then pour into a small container and let it cool to set up. This one doesn't really need any flavoring, the cocoa butter makes it deliciously chocolatey.
___________________

Rosewater and Glycerin Lotion:
2 tablespoons glycerin
2 tablespoons cornstarch
½ cup distilled water
2 tablespoons rosewater

Mix all ingredients together in a heat-proof glass bowl. In a water bath on the stove, heat until just boiling and thick. The lotion will be clear and jelly-like, stir and cool completely. Then pour into a clean, airtight container. This makes a really nice "light" moisturizer. I've also used orange-flower water, which was equally delightful!
___________________

Bath Powder:
2 cups cornstarch
1/4 cup baking soda
a few drops of the essential oil or fragrance oil of your choice.
Mix together thoroughly in a shallow container. Let sit a couple of days, exposed to the air, so it doesn't clump up. Then sift into your container and use.
___________________

Sea Salt Scrub:
1 cup fine sea salt
1/3 cup safflower oil
1/3 cup unscented liquid soap
essential oils or fragrance oil of your choice
Mix together the sea salt, oil, and liquid soap. Add drops of essential oils or fragrance oil until desired scent is achieved. Spoon into a wide mouth jar. This makes a wonderful scrub for you feet, elbows and other "tough" areas. I would not use it on your face.
___________________

Soapless Hand Sanitizer:
1 cup aloe vera gel
1 tsp. rubbing alcohol
2 tsp. glycerin
8-10 drops tea tree oil-available at most health food stores
Mix all ingredients together and pour into a squeeze bottle. If you would like this thicker, add a little more aloe vera gel.
___________________

Lotion Bars:
2 oz grated cocoa butter
2 oz sweet almond oil
2-1/2 oz. grated beeswax
Melt all ingredients together in a microwave or the top of a double
boiler. Pour the mixture into small molds and let set. If lotion bars are too soft, just remelt them and add a bit more beeswax.
___________________

Fizzing Bath Salts:
1 cup epsom salts
1/2 cup baking soda
2 tsp crushed vitamin C tablets
essential oils or fragrance oils as desired
Mix together all ingrdients in a shallow glass container, let dry out for a couple of days, then put in jars. To use, pour half cup of salts into a warm bath.
___________________

Oatmeal Milk Bath:
1 cup oatmeal that's been powdered in a food processor or
1 cup oatmeal baby cereal
and 1 cup powdered dry milk
essential oils or fragrance oils as desired
Mix ingredients together and place in container. Use 1/2 cup in a
bath of warm water
