Spring Cleaning Early!

Moms View Message Board: Get Organized: Spring Cleaning Early!
By Marg on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 06:36 pm:

I thought I would get started now, so in the spring I can work outside.

I am also sick of all the clutter we have gathered over the years. I started with the bedroom today and our bathroom. I have it all clean except for a cupboard and a box dh needs to clean out (he is an avid packrat when it comes to articles, magazines and books).

Tomorrow I am doing a dining room/living room area plus a hall way. I figure if I pace myself I won't get burnout or mad:)

By Trisa on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 - 07:55 am:

Hey I just found this.
So did you get it all done?
Great idea to pace yourself.
I may start on mine next month.

By Fraggle on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 - 08:43 am:

Hey Marg, I have been doing the same thing over the past month! I have just finished going through my DD's closets and getting the baby toys moved to boxes to give away. A couple of weeks ago I cleaned out my clothes and got rid of several bags of sweaters I have not worn for 10 years! Next I have to tackle the hall linen closet. I like getting these projects done now because once the spring comes I like to get outside, too.

By Marg on Monday, March 1, 2004 - 11:50 am:

Boy that was a while back! I finished our bedroom and bath (of course except for dh's junk, lol!

I started the kitchen and during that time, I had back problems and fell down the driveway. I had to stop because I was painting and on a ladder.

I went to the drs. and she said I can go back to my normal everyday life, yeah!

However, I found a really nice trundle bed for one of the girls' bedroom, it would be nice to have one in each bedroom to be honest. It has two nice mattresses that come with it and it was under $600. They really need new beds, two of the three have been sleeping on just a mattress. Anyway, I decided to clean out this room, (yes fling everything not used anymore and I got nice little storage boxes for $1 at Dollar General and I'm touching up the paint. I always buy an extra small can of paint for such jobs! So I'm in a happy mood, I can't wait until it's delivered!

I laid away new bedsheets and comforter for oldest dd, she said it can wait for a birthday present since she picked it out. She's such a sweetie:)

Tomorrow I'm going to clean out the living room/dining room, touch up paint and steam the floor.

I feel energetic now that it's warmer:)

By Fraggle on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 01:22 pm:

Good for you Marg. I'm glad to hear your back is feeling better. Today I've just got to tackle general pick up the house stuff-but tomorrow my mother is coming to play with the girls so I am hoping to finally tackle that hall closet. Right now we are in the middle of remodeling the girl's bathroom so I have to do that too.

I know what you mean about your energy coming back with the rising temp. Over the past week we have been taking more time to go outside and I have felt so much better!

It's almost 70 here today Meredith! I didn't realize you were so far North:) I love Maine, but as I get older, I don't know if I could stand the winters:(

By Fraggle on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 01:37 pm:

We are trying to stay in the 40's today-I don't care it seems warm enough for me. DH hates the winters-I don't really like them much anymore either-neither of us are into winter sports so we usually turn into hermits this time of the year-although this year it has been good for us since we have been able to do some remodeling/redecorating. Actually if I could live somewhere that it was fall/spring all the time I would be happy.

By Marg on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 01:56 pm:

Were you born and raised in Maine? I've been there twice, it is very beautiful.

We live in PA. Coldest is single digits, but usually in the winter it's in the teens or twenties. Summers are usually 80's to 90's. Yes, I like Spring and Fall here. Born and raised in PA, doesn't look like I'll ever leave, but I'd like to live by the ocean or a large body of water someday. I was born a Pisce which suits me fine. Water relaxes me.

By Fraggle on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 02:14 pm:

I moved to Maine right after grad school-let's see 8 yrs ago. I grew up in MA so when I got out of grad school I just wanted to find a job in New England. I ended up meeting my DH and we stayed since it is really such a great place to raise a family. Some of my family now have moved to Maine. I probably would never move back to where I grew up.

By the way-where have you been in Maine?

By Marg on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 - 07:26 pm:

We've been to Portland and mainly along the coast. I'm an ocean lover! Love the ocean views in Maine! It is beautiful, and the people seemed nice. I don't like when you visit some places and the people seem to be rude. We have a tendency not to go back.

I have been to Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut. I would love to go to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward's Island. I heard it is so beautiful up there. The only time we were in Canada was when we went to Niagra Falls.

By Fraggle on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 - 05:38 pm:

Marg-I live just south of Portland and about an 8 minute drive from the coast. I love the ocean-but not to swim in it-just my feet are fine. When I lived in RI I lived just across the road from the ocean for 2 years-I loved it-just waking up every day and smelling the breeze and hearing the waves. I feel so lucky to still live close. DH talks about moving somewhere very dry like Arizona some day-I will go anywhere with him-but I just don't know how I feel about being away from the water.

By Marg on Thursday, March 4, 2004 - 06:47 pm:

You are way to lucky, I can only dream of a home by the water.

I guess God has me in my place for a purpose. When dh was in Norfolk, I was going to move down there with him, but decided against it when we found out his rotation was Norfolk, Gaeta, Italy. I would be alone for 6 months, so we bought a house 2 miles away from my mom. It was for the best. I was there and help when my grandmother, grandfather and then mother passed away.

I often tell dh nothing is keeping me here, but now dds are used to living here. So maybe I'll wait awhile.

BTW, I got dds room painted and redecorated, it looks beautiful. I will start the living room/dining room and hallway tomorrow. It may take awhile, I need to touch up some paint.

Tell dh not to move to Arizona. We know of several people to move out only to move back. I know it's hot with no humidity, but they were to used to living here.

Tell him you need to be near water.

By Fraggle on Monday, March 8, 2004 - 09:46 am:

Here's my update on spring cleaning-I got the upstairs hall closet cleaned out and all the bedding stripped and washed from the girl's bedrooms. Next is the laundry room closet-I'm dreading that task because DH has a ton of clothes in there that need to be donated so I need his help.

It is actually snowing here today-the roads are a mess-there were three major accidents in our area already and DH said people were all over the road on his way in to work.

Great job Marg on your spring cleaning/redecorating so far. Let's hope we are all done soon.

By Marg on Monday, March 8, 2004 - 11:07 am:

I was wondering where you were at Meredith!

I wanted to write you something funny!

I really enjoy Maine. But dh and I have never been there together. He often buys me this magazine called "Down East." And I look through it, he can see my eyes light up.

I don't think they have a PA magazine, lol!

It's been so pretty out. Over the weekend I cleaned up around the yard a little.

I haven't done any spring cleaning since. I'm looking into taking some courses over the internet and kind of excited. I really want to work at home, but I'm tired and burnt out from accounting.

I'll try to send some warm weather your way. I think it's going to be an early spring for us;) Hoping, but not sure.

Check this out. :)

By Marg on Monday, March 8, 2004 - 03:38 pm:

You've got to be kidding Sunny, lol! Are you from PA?

By Fraggle on Monday, March 8, 2004 - 03:51 pm:

Too funny Sunny-oops I just rhymed-too much Berestein Bears lately.

Hey Marg-I don't get a chance to get on the computer at all on the weekends (DH is pursuing his PhD so he takes over the office)

We were outside a lot last week and over the weekend, but today was a real bummer. The driveway is all covered in snow again. I don't think it will last long though.

I have seen the magazine Down East. Thats so sweet of your DH to buy it for you sometimes. Maybe you can take a family vacation to Maine :).

Good for you looking into taking some classes. Right now I am getting over my head in home decorating stuff-I figure I might as well enjoy it now because in a few years I will be back to work-hopefully just part-time, though. I've got to take some classes at some point to renew my certification (speech therapy).

Oh and I'm half way through my laundry room closet-I made a big pile on the bed for DH to sort through-hopefully this will keep him from avoiding the pile and he will not just throw it on the floor tonight!
