Moms View Message Board: Let's Get Fit! (Weight Loss Support Group): Carbs

Man i am trying to work out more now and i feel better but i need to find some will power against the carbs! I am a definite bread addict, i love breads and crackers so much, its a weakness. I think thats where most of my weight comes form too especially since i am a housewife that gets little exercise. Anyone now of any of those carb blockers that actually work? Or something that will cut the craving for them. I would even be happy with some kind of will power!!

Try doing a google search on glycemic index. Everything you eat has a glycemic index, the higher it is, the more readily the sugars are absorbed into your bloodstream and you end up with a roller coaster of blood sugar spikes and lows. A really easy way to smooth this out with things like bread and crackers is to eat them in combination with other foods to lowere the GI of the snack and lower the speed at which the sugars get absorbed and keep your blood sugar more even.
So my suggestion wouldn't be to give up bread and crackers. It would be to find the wholest versions of them you can. Whole wheat bread is pretty easy to find and you can find whole wheat versions of crackers without too much trouble. Then when you eat them make sure you're putting something like cheese or peanut butter on then. Also, especially with crackers, look at the serving size on the box. Usually it's something that you'll think is absurdly low like 4 crackers. Only eat 4 crackers. If you're still hungry then go grab an apple. If you make crackers and bread a forbidded thing then failure is so much easier. Realise that they're a good part of your diet, just not as big a part as you thought.

I've started eating whole wheat breads and crackers. Now when I eat regular crackers or bread, they taste really sweet. I never believed people who said that once your body gets rid of the bad stuff you never crave it anymore. However, I'm proof that it really is true!!

Consider trying high-protein snacks like cheese, nuts (like walnuts and macadamias) in moderation.

A very small amount of these ( < 1 oz) has been excellent for satisfying my hunger cravings.

Personally I find that eating crackers and/or bread make me hungry for more in a few minutes whereas the cheese will satisfy me for hours.

I guess i am just so tired of all the things i can't eat, so many diets and pills and such. don't eat too many calories, don't eat too much fat, no carbs, geez i feel guilty no matter what i eat, maybe i should just lick spray butter all day, LOL it has nothing in it!! I know too much of anything is bad for you but is there anything you can eat that doesn't have one of these in it!! I guess i just need to get off my big butt and work out but its been so long i feel beat after such a short time, man i never realized how lazy i had gotten since my sone was born. I will just keep on going each day until i can build up some tolerance. Thanks to all of you for listening!!
