How to not gain weight during pregnacy safely

Moms View Message Board: Let's Get Fit! (Weight Loss Support Group): How to not gain weight during pregnacy safely

Ok I am 6 weeks pregnant and my youngest is 7 months. This was not planned, but the baby is coming and I don't want to end up a total slob with 40 lbs to lose after this one. I have opted not to go on any "diet" becuase I am not sure if any of them are really safe enough. Anyways I don't want to gain more than 25-30 lbs during this one (i gained 40 with the other 2. I am wondering if anyone has some ideas.

I gained 32 pounds with my twins. Part of my key to not gaining a bunch of weight was walking. I lived in a second story apartment, worked, and had a dog. A lot of walking, and I naturally walk fast. Even when I was on bedrest I would get in at least on brisk walk a day. Even if it was just to the mailboxes. I still carried to 38.5 weeks and delivered healthy babies. Good luck with this pregnancy! :)

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I remember I was starving and sleepy all the time when I was pregnant. I think alittle walk or swim is good. Try not to be like I was eatting pancakes with butter and syrup every morning.(bad cravings for pancakes) My 6 foot tall husband used to tell me I was eatting more than him, but I didn't think I was eatting anything.

I think I gained 35-38 pounds while pregnant. I lost all the weight plus an extra 25 pounds after birth due to breast feeding. I lost the weight so fast after birth due to breast feeding.

Just do the best you can I guess. It is great your youngest is going to have a best play mate in 7 1/2 months!

Take care of yourself!

I would suggest talking to your ob about your diet. Maybe it would be possible for you to follow the diet that women with gestational diabetes use. Since many women use that diet while pregnant then I would imagine that it would be safe and healthy for you and your baby, but please talk to your ob first. Also, Feona is right, breastfeeding can really help you shed any unwanted pounds.

Yeah I am currently breastfeeding my 7 month old and breastfed my 2 year old until 13 months. I definetely plan on breastfeeding this one. I didn't lose the weight near as fast with the secondone like I did the first one. I still have like 10 lbs to go to be back where I was. I will check out the diet for gestational diabetes. That would probably help. Thanks

You sound like me with the whole gaining weight thing. I am currently 5 months pregnant and at first I wasn't gaining a pound because of the morning and all day sickness. Now that I have been put on meds and I drink 3-4 boost a day, I am gaining weight. I gained about 80lbs with Jessica and 30 with Chad. I really do not want to gain that much this time around, but the way I am eating, I may. I go to my obgyn on Tues. so I will have a talk with him about what I can do so I don't gain a lot.

Well last pregnacy (wich was not too long ago) I was crazy about peanut butter and jelly and ate like 4 a day. I quit for a long time and had one the other day. I am controlling myself and not eating them but once in a while, but you know what it is like at the end. You continuosly eat and feel like a bottomless pit. I didn't eat huge meals but jsut small continous ones. Why is it that you are drinking boost? Is it a deficiency or something? just wondering. We give them to people at the hospital that tend to not eat anything else to give them some nurishment. I have a half gallon milk container that I cleaned and am working on drinking one of those a day. IT should help. Right now I am only 8 weeks and have not had an appetite increase. I just have about 15 lbs left over from the other 2 and don't want anymore.

The obgyn had me drinking them at first because I was getting sick so much and didn't want me to loose all the good stuff. I was also drinking them to try and gain some of the weight I was loosing back. Now I am using them as my snacks. I am eating 3 regular meals and snacks throughout the day, but instead of eating and eating all the time, I drink these to help me not gain a lot of weight.
