Trina--Booster Question

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Trina--Booster Question
By Kate on Monday, March 5, 2007 - 09:21 am:

Hi Trina! My 6.4 year old is itching to get rid of the back part of her Graco Turbo Booster. She's almost 47 inches tall. I haven't tried it without the back yet to know where the shoulder belt falls, and I know that's key. But I was just wondering if there were any other 'rules' or 'guidelines' regarding this issue. She rides outboard in a minivan with side airbags in the middle row on the driver's side. And her head is well below the top of the vehicle seat. I'd like to keep her in it for the head wing protection, but I was still curious as to the actual safety guidelines and your opinion. Also, if you have any stats that she could relate to... Thanks!

A quickie, as I'm on my way out the door.

High back boosters offer more crash protection than backless boosters. They also provide better sleep support. My kids (8 & 10) ride in backless boosters occasionally when car pooling, etc., but mainly ride in high back boosters. I prefer they use the safer option most of the time, but that's just me. :)

I know you're aware of this but will post it for the benefit of others. A backless booster requires a vehicle seating position with a headrest or high seat back. For example, a backless booster may not be used on a low back bench seat because it does not provide any head support. ALL boosters require both a lap and shoulder belt.
