Little girls and hairy legs

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Little girls and hairy legs

My 7 yr. old and a friend's 5 yr. old have very hairy legs. We were wondering if it is something that will get less noticeable as they get older or is this something that stays with them until they are teens. I told her I would post here and see if anyone had any thoughts or experiences. TIA.

My dd is almost 10 and she has extremely hairy legs and people are starting to make fun of her for it.. But she doesn't want to start shaving (not that I want to let her yet). So we are just waiting a few years or until she wants to shave to deal with it.

I had hairy legs growing up and my mom was so strict about not shaving. I couldn't shave my legs until I needed to start shaving under my arms. It was torture as an eleven year old having hairy legs while my friends shaved theirs. I can't say though that I won't make the same decision.

I think it is pretty common for girls to have the hairy legs. Dd was about 10 when she started shaving and I started her with an electric razor. Most of the girls around here started shaving around then. I wouldn't worry about it until it starts to bother her. Then, I believe it is time to take care of it!

My best friend and little sister were both very hairy. this wasn't an issue until about age 10 when they started getting teased. My mom would shave my sister's legs for her until she thought my sister was old enough to do it herself.

My best friend's mom wouldn't let her shave, and she was teased mercilessly. Other kids would harp on it constantly, and even when she wore pants they would make comments about how it must be to cover up her hairy legs. After seeing all the ridicule she had to put up with, I don't think I would make my kid go through that.

My 7yr old DD has very hairy legs.Last year she refused to wear shorts for gym because she was so embarrassed.I told her that she notices it more than the other girls do.I told her when shes abit older I will let her shave but not yet.Her no shorts phase lasted a couple of weeks and then it was all forgotten or she was just to darn hot to worry about it.

I don't have girls, but when I was younger, my legs were very hairy, and I started shaving when I started changing clothes for P.E. in junior high. I don't understand why someone wouldn't let their 10 year old girl shave her legs? I would feel comfortable with it if it was what my daughter wanted.

My older daughter started shaving at 11 and just a few months, because she needed to!
