Gotta love "toddler talk"

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Gotta love "toddler talk"
By Reds9298 on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 10:17 pm:

Tonight after DH got home from work, Natalie was lying on our bed and DH was tickling her. She would laugh and say "No Daddy, don't do dat", then he would tickle her again. The next time, she stood up on the bed and said "Daddy, I telled you don't do dat!" I love it. :)

What cute phrases/words do your little ones use at the moment?

By Imamommyx4 on Thursday, September 28, 2006 - 11:08 pm:

When dd was really little, just barely toddling and talking, she would stick her hands in the air and say "I wanna hud doo". We never quite figured out whether she was saying, "I want to hold you" or "I want to hug you" but the end result was picking her up and getting the best hug in the world.

You gotta love 'em.

Sarah called "owls", "wowls" for a short while. She also said tookie for cookie and tar for car. I can't remember any phrases, anymore

Emily, for a while, called oranges, "orange-apples", because they were round like an apple, but orange!

By Nicki on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 08:21 am:

Deanna, that is so cute. Lara has her own words for the word "because". She'll say "cause about". So a typical sentence is, "My dog is sad cause about him hurt his tail." When she was about Natalie's age, she used to have a hard time with the word, "chalk". It would come out, well, instead of "ch" she would use the "ck" sound and skip the "l" sound all together. Yep, so when grandma came over one day to spend time with her, she said, "Grandma, I want to play with ••••". Oh my. :-|

By Tripletmom on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 08:47 am:

Too Cute-lots of laughs to come with all these cute expressions.

Nicki-My DD also said chalk the same way.She told me she liked **** alot and needed more in Wal-mart.I kept repeating loudly, yes honey you do need more CHALK.LOL

By Reds9298 on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 09:04 am:

Funny about the chalk! There are so many cute words, I wish I had time to write them all down.

Natalie says "Bye! See you next 'morrow" when she's leaving. And she's terrified by the riding mower and weedeater (trimmer, is that a regional syaing?) Anyway, DH was weedeating one Saturday, she was sitting on the potty and we were talking about it and she said "I don't want to work with that WEENER anymore." LOL! I died laughing.

I love to hear everyone's cutie sayings. :)

Faith just turned 2 in August. In the last few months she has been talking so much more. Of course, there are many things we still do not understand. However, there are a lot more things we do understand. She walks around saying "No puppy" a lot. When the dogs try to take her toys from her, that is what she will say. When she hears somebody that is not in the room she will see "See mommy" "see Daddy" See sissy" etc.. who ever is not in the room.

By Tarable on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 10:23 am:

When Alexis was about 2 she didn't say chicken correctly. she pronounced chicken with an sh at the beginning and replace the CK with TT so it came out not so well.. I can't tell you how many laughs she got out of saying sh**ten nuggets. Especially at McDonalds.

By Nicki on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 12:05 pm:

LOL, Deanna. I love this thread. I am laughing so hard! These are priceless. :-)

By Tink on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 12:27 pm:

My oldest mispronounced "socks" the same way some of your's pronounced "chalk". It was so hard not to crack up when she'd come running into the room asking me to put her "socks" on. My ds loved the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a season when he was four but he called them the "F*ckaneers" as he cheered them on each Sunday. My youngest learned the alphabet song when she was pretty young (under 2yo) but "L-M-N-O-P" was "nella-ninno-peeeeee". And she would combine "night" and "dark" and "bedtime" so when the sun went down, it was "narktime".

By Bellajoe on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 12:27 pm:

Nikki, my ds who is 5 still says "cause about". I think it's so cute, so i have not corrected that yet! For example he would say "the grass is wet cause about the rain"

I was trying to teach ds to say "texas" yesterday. That was a hard one for him. I think he kept saying "textaxt" or something like that.

When dd was a toddler and was done eating her food, she would throw her hands up in the air and say "aaalllll D!" She would also say Tootie for cookie.
When my neighbor's dd would see the golden arches for McDonalds she would point and say "fa flies!" For French fries.

My ds is in kindergarten and they are learning the months of the year to a song. He can't say his R's yet so the end of the song comes out like this:
August, Septemo, Octobo, Novembo, Decembo! Too Cute! I've got to video tape that before he figures out how to say his R's!

By Bellajoe on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 12:29 pm:

Tink that is TOO Cute, i'm cracking up at Narktime and what he called his team!

By Tink on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 12:46 pm:

Patti reminded me that my oldest used to see the "Golden Arches" and yell "McDoughnuts!". She also called fish "Lo-los" and balloons were "ninnies". We never figured out the reason for either of those names.

By Dandjmom on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 03:28 pm:

When my ddd was aobtu 3 she and her cousins where in the same after school progeam and each group had a title. So one day she precedded to tell me that she was a lady bug and I asked hat was her cousin she siad that she is a pi**y.

S I knew that was wrong ut I dindt' nwo what she meant( I thought she was ellign em that my cousin had went to bathroom on herself) so I asked my aunt, adn she informed me that my cousins group where the prixzys.

I guess the s sounds was easier to make then the z sound.

My ds he has a lot of them but I have to go now. Well come back later and tell them.

By Heaventree on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 09:18 pm:

Deanna, Matthew says exactly the same thing the same way. It's so cute. Also lately he says "but" between every sentence and if you ask him what he's doing or what something is and he doesn't know the anwser he says "hhhhmmmmm" and puts his finger to his mouth. I love how they get words mixed up, motorcycle at our house is a "cyclemichael" I have no idea why.

By Tripletmom on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 09:24 pm:

LOL Heaventree-Katie 1st called a motorcycle a motorbycle.I remember she always used to call us my mommy or my daddy.

By Tripletmom on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 09:32 pm:

Oh Ya-One of my favorites. We went and got ham subs for dinner one night,Katie was 2.I left the kitchen for a minute and when I came back in she had the sub on her head and said "My mommy yook at me I'm a yittle hamster" ROFL.We submitted that one to readers digest.

By Nicki on Friday, September 29, 2006 - 10:53 pm:

LOL!!! Sherri I am laughing so hard!

Patti, I feel better! I haven't corrected Lara either, it's just so cute sounding. I figure they outgrow these sweet terms all too soon.:-)

Deanna, I think we have the makings of a great book here. I suppose someone has already done this, but these are great! And it sure feels good to laugh.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, September 30, 2006 - 09:31 pm:

Aren't we bad, for not correcting those things? I did the same thing with mine. With time, they all came to say things correctly, anyway.

By Kaye on Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 08:51 am:

My dd was about 2 and was just discovering her alphabet. She called them "E-O's". I think this is because she had a name puzzle and she knew all the letters in her name, Nicole. So one day we were driving to the store, she was looking out the window and I hear, "Mommy there are e-o's on that sign, mommy there are e=o's on the building", and then very loudly she continued "Mommy there are e-o's EVERYWHERE"!

My middle kid had speech issues, the worst was with the combination of tr. He used an f sound instead. And boy did he love his trucks. His cutest saying was "I can't like it". While he shook his head. We still use this phrase in my house sometimes :)

The youngest guy, not too long ago, age 8. His daddy plays the guitar, he would like to also. So often when his daddy plays he will come and strum. Well if daddy is playing you can't hear how he really isn't playing the same notes. So while his daddy had stopped and was looking for some music, Andrew was still playing. He finally stopped and looked at his dad and said "daddy can you tune my fingers?"

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 09:29 am:

Awww, Kaye, those are so cute! The truck one, though, I bet you were glad when he figured out how to say "truck!"

By Bellajoe on Sunday, October 1, 2006 - 04:16 pm:

Kaye, those are so cute!!

By Brandy on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 - 08:14 am:

my niece courtney calls moths mops = ) so instead of the flying moth it's the flying mops... lol...

By Reds9298 on Friday, October 6, 2006 - 01:41 pm:

Lots of cute, cute sayings. :)

This morning Natalie was playing with her baby in her room, feeding, putting to sleep, etc. and I heard her say repeatedly, "Don't cry baby. I like you! Don't cry, I like you!"

Then when she left the room to go get something, she said, "I'll be back in a little soon." My video camera is getting a serious workout. :):)
