Kindergarten Mom's--How's it going?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Kindergarten Mom's--How's it going?
By Eve on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 10:13 am:

We made it through the first week. (It was a short week) Syd needed a nap the first day and then did much better. We love the bus! She was telling something that her teacher is "cool!" LOL I'm nervous because I hear she is really strict, but the kids learn a lot. We made it though! I can't believe my baby is in Kindy!

Meredith-how did it go? You'll have to post a photo??

Is anyone else having fun shopping for clothes?

By Melanie on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 11:36 am:

Peyton is having a blast. I was worried about her dominant personality. She has two big brothers and let's just say she has learned how to hold her own with them! So I was very happy yesterday when the aide (who I have know for years as she taught preschool for both of my boys starting 7 years ago) told me she was doing fantastic. She said she is very empathetic to the other kids and just a sweetheart. Woo Hoo!

Yesterday they chose "Big Buddies" from the fourth grade. She chose her brother and a good friend of his. Oh boy! I think that will turn out to be one noisy (though very fun) group. LOL.

Oh, the clothes. Little girls are just so much fun to dress. The boys were fun, too, when they were younger, but now all they want are sweatshirts and jeans. Honestly, how many different ways are there to make a sweatshirt?? Boring. LOL. So I am having fun dressing Peyton. I am expecting a thank you card from Hanna Andersson any day now. LOL.

Bella is loving her classroom. Her assessment was Wednesday and I was glad to hear that Bella more than held her own with the rest of her group. She's not as advanced as my other two so I didn't know how she fit in with what they expect a kindergartener to know. She's made a few friends but was exhausted by the end of the day each day. Tuesday (her 2nd day), she fell asleep in my bed arguing with me that she wasn't tired!:)

I've had a GREAT time shopping for both of my girls this year. My oldest and I still agree on clothes and we were able to find plenty of things that I didn't consider "too grown-up". Bella is such a girly girl that she wants all the dresses, skirts, and jumpers I'll buy for her. And, OMG, this little girl LOVES shoes! Fun, fun!:)

Glad to hear Sydney and Peyton are enjoying Kindergarten! Enjoy dressing your girly girls. Bethany is tomboyish and will NOT wear anything lacy, frilly or too girly. She's very conservative and prefers sport pants and t-shirts. Argh.

Tink, I was composing my message when you posted. Yeah for Bella!

He said he wishes every Friday was Crazy Hair Day. LOL :)

By Bellajoe on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 04:22 pm:

Joey had his first day of kindergarten on Friday. He goes Monday, Wed. and Fri, so he won't go back till Wedneday, since Monday is a holiday.

Friday was a half day for him, so he started at 12:30. He was so anxious to go all morning, it was really cute. I told him that I would take him to school after lunch. So of course at 10:00 he come up to me and says "mom, i'm hungry, can i have lunch now?" LOL
My dh met us up at the school. There were a bunch of other kids and parents there. All the older kids lined the hallways and when the kindergarteners walked in, they clapped for them. I guess the teacher walk them thru all the halls so all the kids can clap for them. IT's their way of welcoming them to the school. it was VERY cute. My ds was grinning from ear to ear! I got it all on video. Of course i was trying so hard not to just start bawling right there! I was totally blinking back the tears. Then i got in the car and cried. I can not believe that my baby is in kindergarten!!
Ds and dd rode the bus home together. Ds said he had a great first day and dd told me that "he made a little friend on the bus, mom!" it was sweet.
I will post some pics on the photo board.

Katy Beth absolutely loves her teacher and class and friends. She's having a ball and the teacher tells me just about every day that she's had a great day. Our only problem has been after school care. I work one day a week during the week and she does not like going to the extended care program. She only went once and said she didn't want to go back. Then the next time she needed to go, she fell asleep the night before crying that she didn't want to go and woke up crying. So we haven't sent her since. She says the only problem is that she wants to come home to mommy after school. I talked to her teacher and her and the ladies in Ext Care. Everybody and she says nothing happened. Her teacher seems to think if I give it a few weeks until she's used to the longer days, she might be okay going.

Oh, and the other thing--at the end of the first week she had strep. At the end of the second week she had a stomach bug and a urinary tract infection. I hope we have it all out of our system now.

My DD only went to school one day last week, but she got on and off the bus like a pro and seemed to enjoy her day at school. She gets to ride the bus with her sister so that helps, too. It is a full-day program here and she seemed to like it alot. She is excited to go back again on Tuesday. I was very nervous since she never attended pre-school and but she was just ready I guess. I started crying as soon as the bus pulled away of course. :-) Eve, I will try to post a picture when we get that roll of film developed. We still have a traditional camera-DH refuses to go to digital yet.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, September 3, 2006 - 08:47 pm:

That's where I'm at! In 1994, I had a kindergartener and now she's a senior in high school! These years have FLOWN by! Now, I have no one even in middle school anymore, because she's a freshman!

By Bellajoe on Monday, September 4, 2006 - 01:35 pm:

I have one second grader and one in kindergarten this year. Time has totally flown by. It seems like yesterday that i had one in "playschool" and one in preschool! :( Now they are both taking the bus to and from school!

I really enjoyed reading all of your stories. sniff sniff :( :) I am so glad all the kids are enjoying K so much.

Blake had his first full week of 1/2 day K, last week. He had a ball! He has the teacher that I requested and he loves her (i was worried he would think she is too strict ha). He has 12 kids in his class only 2 of those are girls. This happened in his Bridge class last yr (16 kids only 2 girls!) LOL !!

My middle ds is in 7th grade and apparently I am in denial. I keep telling people he is in 6th grade. :( I just cannot move him up in my brain for some reason. lol

My oldest started 9th grade and started a new high school... Oh my, I was not ready to have a child in high school!!!

I feel really old. My older boys were embarrassed to walk thru their schools with me. I am NOT embarrassing. :( sniff ROFL

My goodness. I feel like the rest of the world is just moving right along and we're standing still! School starts tomorrow, here. Randy had his orientation day and just loved it. We'll see how the real thing goes.
Kudos to all the happy new kindergartners!
Ame

I know. I was starting to feel like we were the last ones to start school. It started here, yesterday.
