Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Argh!!! Shane decided to be a hair stylist!!
By Crystal915 on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 12:55 pm:

He cut off his mohawk, and ALL of his sister's hair!! She's got a few bald spots, and some strands, but basically she has a boy cut now. I'm going to have to take her in to the salon to get it somewhat decent looking. I cannot believe he did it!! He must have snuck the safety scissors upstairs in his pocket, because I keep them in the living room with the craft supplies. **shakes head** I'm in disbelief!!

By Mrsheidi on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 01:14 pm:

I can laugh because it's not my kid (yet)! :) Pictures!!??

By Juli4 on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 01:29 pm:

oh my. That sounds way worse than what mine did. My now 5 year old at around 2.5 ct all of her hair that was to the middle of her back off to like around her ears. All except a long strip in the back she couldn't reach. It was awful. I cried. My now 2 year old has homeade bangs that were not originally there. I can't evenmake them look good they were so short. It will grow and be something to look back on.

By Boxzgrl on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 02:20 pm:

LOL... my brother did that to me when I was 5... and sleeping in bed. He then blamed it on my friend and I was grounded from seeing her for a week.

By Cat on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 03:33 pm:

Oh, Crystal!!! Robin did that when he was almost 5 (of course it was a week before his kindergarten pictures!). He cut a big hunk right out of the middle of the front. It looked like a permanant part! He also cut Randy's hair, but since it was so short anyway, and wavy, it blended well and you couldn't even tell he'd cut it except for the pieces of dark hair on the floor (Robin's hair was blond so I knew it was Randy's). It will grow back. How does Maddie feel about her new 'do? Hugs.

By Angellew on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 03:52 pm:

Oh this is definitely a photo opportunity of gigantic proportions!!!! You'll laugh about it some day!

By Marcia on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 04:23 pm:

My oldest daugther did the same thing as Juli's daughter - one long strip left in the back of her long hair. :(
My youngest decided she wanted bangs a few years ago, so cut some sort of messy bangs. I was able to at least fix them enough to not look horrible. She then decided she didn't like them, so put the scissors right against her scalp and cut them completely off. She did that for about a 2 inch wide strip. She had to wear fat headbands for quite some time. Luckily her hair grows very quickly!
My middle daughter never cut her own hair, thank goodness!!
Yes, take pics. We sure have many pics of crazy hair. :)

When my best friend was a teen, she and her 2 teenage sisters, mom and dad were all in the living room. Her little brother, who was 5, walked into the middle of the room and cut off a large chunk of hair right in front of them before anyone realized what was happening! He certainly got their attention, though I don't think it was the type he was craving!

I remember when I was 5, I cut a 1/2 inch snip off the end of my hair, just to see what it felt like to cut my own hair! I always liked the noise/feeling when I got my hair cut, so I wanted to try it. It was such a small bit that no one noticed, but I was so scared that my mom would find out and I would be in trouble!

She has bald spots, and it's going to be horrible growing back in. I am still in disbelief... what can you do but laugh??

By Tink on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 06:55 pm:

HOLY HECK!!! Luckily, she is the type to pull off a pixie cut perfectly but I can not believe Shane did that! I'm shocked that he was even able to cut it that short with scissors. Invest in a ton of cute clips and lots of pink clothing.:)

By Bellajoe on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 07:04 pm:

Weeeeelllll, the front looks o.k.?!?!

I would have her wear hats for a while LOL

Don't worry Crystal, when people see that hair they will know that either she cut it or her brother did!

She's a cutie pie!!

By Kaye on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 07:54 pm:

Wow did he get it short!!! It is hair it will grow out, but geesh...gotta love kids! He did a great job on the bangs, maybe he has a future in hair :)

By Crystal915 on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 07:59 pm:

LOL the bangs were the only part he DIDN'T cut!! he took nice chunks out of the top of her hair though, and since she has fine hair to begin with, it was a mess. *sigh* I cut my bangs with pinking shears when I was 8, so I can't really be too mad!

By Mrsheidi on Monday, August 7, 2006 - 09:13 pm:

OOOOHHHHMMMMYYYYYGGGOOOOODNESSSSSSS!!! She is adorable though...was she mad? I kinda like her new haircut. Why couldn't he have done this at the BEGINNING of summer? LOL! Aye aye aye...

By Andi on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 - 12:03 am:

She still looks beautiful! That is going to be really funny when they are older.

By Karen~admin on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 - 07:44 am:

Crystal, I think *many* of us go through that. My mom said my sisters and I did it when we were young. *My* Madison has done it. I don't think my 4 actually did it - with the exception of Jen cutting hers in 5th grade or so, when it was tangled all around a round brush and I said *cut it* and was kidding and she thought I meant it. I think I felt like you must have felt when you first saw Shane and Maddie, I cried for 2 days. We had to cut her LONG hair shoulder length.

Hopefully Maddie's hair will grow quickly. And I agree, she can pull off the pixie cut. This is a story you will retell countless times in their lives, and you've got pictures to prove it!

By Angellew on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 - 10:55 am:

OH MY!!!!!! He really did get right down there, huh??? WOW!!!!!

But, she really does look cute in the short hair! She has a beautiful face!

By Nicki on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 - 11:18 am:

She's beautiful, Crystal. It will grow back quickly, but in the meantime she looks darling.

I like the first photo where I can see Shane in the background. He has that look like he's in a little bit of trouble, but on the other hand he's thinking, it doesn't look that bad, does it?:-)

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 - 11:52 am:

LOL, Nicki, you're right about that first picture. My neighbor had come over to see the damage, her DS is a little over a year, and she has another on the way, a little girl. She said "If Matthew EVER does that to his little sister, I might have to kill him!!" The only bit of condolence I can take from it is Mads has very fine hair, and it can't grow too far past her shoulders without looking stringy. Our friend Paul's DD has LONG, beautiful, curly red hair, and if Mads' hair looked like hers, I'd be DEVASTATED!!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 - 03:12 pm:

Well, the good thing is, that hair grows. No hair style is really all the permanent! I think she looks cute with the short hair. The bare spots will grow out soon enough! What's important is that you have pictures, so you can remember it!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 - 09:30 pm:

Katie cut Emily's hair when they were around 3. Not nearly that bad but I still have the scissors and the hair she cut off put up. At least it was "just" hair could have been so much worse...

By Brandy on Monday, August 14, 2006 - 12:02 am:

lol i just saw this omgosh courtney did that to herself lol = ) stephanie didn't even touch her = )
