Does this mean I have to start Potty Training?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Does this mean I have to start Potty Training?
By Heaventree on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 01:57 pm:

I have had the potty in the bathroom now for a few weeks and every time I go into the bathroom Matthew follows along and I always suggest that he sit on his potty. It keeps him out of trouble. :)

The day before yesterday we came in from outside and I took his diaper off, he said he had to pee pee so I asked if he wanted to pee in his potty, he said yes.

He sat down and was trying, I could see he was forcing and his tummy was moving, he really just ended up passing gas, but I guess this is a sign he's ready right?

I'm so not looking forward to this whole process and I'm not even sure why I feel that way. Everyone keeps telling me to do it in the summer because it's easier although I don't see why the season makes a difference.

It is really possible to potty train in one day? I'm not being lazy, I guess it's just hard with two so young to focus so much time on just one. I feel like I'm always running in six different directions and this is just one more thing for me to do. I know "Would you like some cheese with that whine?"

Anyway are these the signs? Do it now or wait? He does go a few hours with a dry diaper and sometimes wakes up from nap with a dry diaper. The other issue is at night I have him a Pampers size 6 (largest size) and he's peeing right through them so I'm not sure what to do about night time. Should I limit his liquids after 6 pm?

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

I think I would be inclined to start training him. It really wasn't done in a day, with either one, but Emily was 3-1/2, so once she put her mind to it, she was done quickly.

I would. Trying it won't hurt. Natalie was trained in about 2 days, but she's a girl. If he's interested and has dry diapers from time to time, I would go for it. Natalie still reads her 'potty' books and she only wears a diaper at night. She loves those books even though she knows all about it now. I would really go with it if he seems interested and make a big deal about it.

ugh, I guess I should, we are going on vacation not this weekend but next. I think I'll start when we get home. It will give me sometime to do some research.

Thanks
