Potty Trainig At Night.....HELP!!!!!

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Potty Trainig At Night.....HELP!!!!!
By Rayanne on Saturday, July 1, 2006 - 10:56 am:

Well Rylee is potty trained. She goes all day without having an accident and even takes a nap in her panties. At night, we have been putting her in a diaper. How do I get her to not pee at night in her panties? For 2 nights now, she has worn panties to bed, but pees at night and doesn't even realize she did it. I woke her up 2 times last night to try and get her to go potty, but she wouldn't go. How do I get her to know that when she has to go to get up and go and not pee in her bed? I am stuck.

I kept my DD in pull ups at night for a while. Once she started waking up dry on a regular basis, then I let her wear her regular underwear at night. :)

Ditto Sandy.

Don't be surprised if she's unable to stay dry all night for a long time yet. She is doing very well for her age! My DS wet nightly until he was 7.5 years old. Our ped. doesn't even treat bedwetting until a child is 8 or 9 because it's that common. Some kids are simply not physically capable of staying dry at night until they're older. DS wore Good Nights to bed when we outgrew Pull Ups. We tried all the usual suggestions (limiting drinks, waking at night to use the bathroom, etc. ) but nothing worked. The Good Nights were worth every penny for the stress, anxiety and laundry saved! Remember that it's important not to punish or belittle the child because they really have no control over it.

I don't punish her at all. I just tell her that it's ok and that if she wakes up to tell mommy and daddy and we will take her. I think I will just stick to pull-ups and see what happens. Thanks girls.

Ditto, Trina. My ds will be 6 in a few days, and still wears Good Nights to bed. He has just recently started having more dry nights, then wet ones. Like mentioned above, I would just use the pull-ups until she is waking up dry on a consistant basis. I do always make my boys use the bathroom before bed, and I try and limit their drinking after dinner. It is hard right now because they are playing outside after dinner, and it is so hot. They are so thirsty when they come in.

What are Good Nights?

By Debbie on Saturday, July 1, 2006 - 07:09 pm:

Good Nights, are like pull-ups, but for bigger dks. My ds is tall and 60 lbs, so the pull-ups don't fit him anymore. You can just use pull-ups since Rylee is still small.

We used pull-ups for Katie also, until she was night time potty trained. It took longer at night b/c she was a 12 hour sleeper at that age.We also decreased her fluids at night.I heard milk doesn't make them pee at night as much as water. She usually got a drink of milk if she was really thirsty and not a whole cup.

Rayanne, you can also email Erika about this. She's had this issue with Nick and he's six. She talked to his pediatrician at his 6 yr check up and he said not to worry that sometimes kids just "can't" at these ages and he wouldn't suggest anything until he's 8 or 9 and still having the same issues. He just wears the good nights to bed, but I think Rylee is still small enough for pull ups.

It's GREAT she's doing so well during the day, wtg Mommy AND Rylee!

Ditto everyone else on this!

Jen was well into 4 y/o before she was completely dry at night. I tried everything - withholding fluids after dinner, diapers at night, *trying* to wake her up to go (HUGE mistake). The problem was, she slept SO soundly, she didn't realize she was going, or that she even had to go. I don't recommend this, but I started carrying her to the potty around 11 PM when I was going to bed, and sitting her on it, and speaking softly into her ear and she would go. In the beginning, she had no memory of it at all. LOL I think she never even woke up while I was doing it. Eventually she starting waking up at night *if* she had to go.
