Rash on the hiny and sore throat (severe)

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Rash on the hiny and sore throat (severe)
By Lauram on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 - 07:18 pm:

My eight year old has this. His bottom is so sore and he has a really bad sore throat. It's hard for him to swallow. He's had coxsackie before, so I don't think that's it. He does have a cold and no fever. Any ideas? (I am taking him to the dr tomorrow- after the Connecticut mastery tests- thank you President Bush!)

I just hope that he is able to do his best on his test with this bothering him. If it his too bad, I would get a drs. excuse and have him take his test on a make-up day. I understand what you mean about these tests though. In Virginia, our kids have to take the SOL tests. I won't get into my true feelings on teaching the tests, though!

Hope your son feels better! Not sure what he may have. Can't strep sometimes cause a rash in different places? I'm not an expert on strep... only one of my dks have had it and that was one time and that wasn't a text book case!

Let us know what the dr. says.

I hope your ds is feeling better soon. It sounds like strep to me. Let us know how the dr's visit goes tomorrow.

I agree with Adena. If he is not feeling well on test day, keep him home and let him take the make up.

I think I would keep him home, test or no test. If it's strep, he shouldn't be in school until he's had 24 hours of antibiotics. Besides, he's probably miserable.

Just wondering how he is feeling? Was he up to going to school? Hope you saw these posts before sending him... I know how it is being a mother on the fence about whether or not to send a child to school. Sometimes hearing others second your thought about keeping them home helps so much.

I just noticed how much my first post was jumbled. Please excuse me. I wasn't feeling well last night, and my fingers weren't working with my mind!

Let us know what the doctor says and how your son is feeling!

Yes, strep can cause a rash! With how sore his throat is and the rash, it could very well be strep. I would not send him to school, even with it being testing day. If he does have strep, it is very contagious. He could end up spreading it around his class.

I did send him to school (for the test) and then picked him up at 11 for a dr appt. It was not strep- but it's a virus that is going around. He does have conjunctivitis (I noticed that when I picked him up- crusties on his eyes- that wasn't there when I sent him). He never did have a fever, which is why the strep idea was odd to me. I am keeping him home until tomorrow. He'll have had a full day of the drops by then. He's not feeling great either- very tired.

Also- just so you know how crazy a make-up test is for him... He's a special needs student who has to take it alone in an alternative environment with extra time. He's taking the entire battery with the principal. I didn't want to mess up her schedule.
