Ds has to have endoscopy

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Ds has to have endoscopy
By Luvn29 on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 12:26 pm:

Well, my six year old has been on prescription Zantac for over a year and he is still having stomach problems. So has to have an endoscopy done on March 22. I knew this was coming, but I am still so upset by it. And his pediatric gastrologist just called me a little bit ago to tell me his labs came back from yesterday and his iron is still low and he is anemic, not border line has once suggested by his bloodwork a year ago, so he has to start taking iron supplements today. We didn't worry about the borderline low counts a year ago because he had been really sick that winter with viruses here, and colds there. But the counts have dropped instead of improved, and he has had a pretty good winter, so she has confirmed that he is anemic.

He's going to stay on the Zantac till after the scope because before she puts him on stronger meds for GERD which she thinks is his problem, she wants to be sure she isn't covering up any problems.

Just keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

{{{hugs}}} My ds had an endoscopy last year. It ia a very quick and easy procedure. My ds was a little sleepy after it, but by that afternoon he was up and running around. He was diagnosed with GERD. When they did the endoscopy they found lesions in the stomach lining that were causing the pain. He was on Prevacid for awhile and recently was switched to Zantac. He is actually doing really well now on just the Zantac.
