Now both my DKs have asthma

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Now both my DKs have asthma

DS was diagnosed with asthma in Gr. 1. Yesterday I got a phone call from the school nurse informing me that DD (Gr. 2) was having an asthma attack. AWWWW!! I was able to get her right in to our pediatrician's office. She has formerly been diagnosed. :( Now both my kids have severe nut allergies and asthma. Well, to be honest, it makes it easier to deal with when they both have the same medical concerns. We already have a nebulizer and are familiar with taking peak flow readings and following an asthma action plan. Just need to follow up with our Asthma/Allergy specialist for further testing to pinpoint her triggers. I wonder if she's allergic to cats, too... *Heavy Sigh* Never a dull moment, I tell you!

Trina, I have 3 with it! Have you taken them off of dairy? Especially milk, I'm not making any Claims, but for US I took them off of Milk and cheese, they get a small amount of yogurt, basically a gogurt here and there, My oldest is 9 so he is growing out of it now, but his treatment/attack frequency went down by 75% in the Fall his worst time, by second is down by about 80% and my baby has only had two attacks since diagnosis, so about 8 months.

We went to an allergist who is also an accupuncturist, who did wonders for my sinus problems and she reccomended we do the non dairy route and it's been a blessing!

{{{{{Trina}}}}} Like you said--at least you know what you're dealing with. How's B doing with the news? More hugs.

Sorry to hear, Trina! Ugh. :( It does mean more work and more worries, huh? {{{Trina and DD}}}
Was she scared? That must be a traumatic experience for such a young girl! :(

Big Hugs to You and ur family as u go thru this. My daughter has asthma and has since she was 3 years old. Tho she hasnt had an attack in afew years. not used her inhaler. but in the last few years she only used it when she had double triggers. Like the weather and dust in the air.

I know allergies can cause John to have a asthma attack. I think it is pretty common. John's attacks can be controlled with Benadryl. He takes about 30 singular a year during certain times of the year. John also allergic to hydronated oil of all things.

Thanks, everyone. UPDATE: Just got back from the Asthma/Allergy specialist. Besides her severe nut allergies, DD is allergic to trees, grass, weeds and dogs. She is very, very sad about the dog allergy. :( The doctor prescribed Flonase and a Pulmicort inhaler (asthma maintenance med.). We'll be charting her peak flows for 2 weeks and then going back to set up an Asthma Action Plan.

Kym, neither of my kids have tested positive or shown any signs of a milk allergy. DD is small for her age and doesn't eat very much meat. She loves dairy so it is our saving grace as a healthy source of nutrition. Since pinpointing DS's asthma triggers, tracking his peak flows and following his Asthma Action Plan, we've been able to nip all asthma flares in the bud. I'm hoping things work out the same for DD.
