Diaper Rash Help

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2005: Diaper Rash Help
By Reds9298 on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 - 08:04 pm:

Natalie has her first stingy diaper rash! It started yesterday. She had a bit of red occ asionally before but we've always used Balmex and it goes right away. This isn't getting much better, or as soon as she has another bowel movement it's totally red again.
What rash creams have you used that really work? Thank you!!!

Butt Paste...I think you can get it at WalMart. I would search online and see who has it. We got ours as a gift so I don't know where they got it, but Walmart is a place I've heard that carries it.

I've heard Butt Paste on this board before.

I have used a touch of Vagisil yeast infection cream on the boys when they get that red painful rash and it has cleared it up, not too much though. The doctor said the red is yeast.

Corn starch & Milk of Magnesium mixed together to a pasty consistency. MOM takes the heat & sting right out of the diaper rash. I also used Aveeno, which seems to work.
If you don't mind, also give her some air time, that helps a lot too.
It sounds like she has pretty acidy BM, has something new been introduced to her diet?

Butt Paste here too!

Emily7 - Hmmmm...I thought about the diet thing. The only new thing I can think of is that she had white grape juice yesterday which she hasn't had for probably 2 weeks or so. Before that though she was alternating between white grape and juice every other day, then I ran out of the grape and just replaced it. She's been having only apple lately. She's had white grape this whole time. Do you think having a 2 week break from it would affect her that way??
(BTW, her juice is always at least half and half with water, usually more water though.)

The rash isn't terrible, just stubborn. I tried to change her more frequently today just because of that.

I'll check Walmart tomorrow for the Butt Paste. Thank you!!

It's Boudreaux's Butt Paste---made in Louisiana of course! Super Duper Diaper Doo is also really good. If it continues to stay red and doesn't respond to treatment then take her to the doctor. It can also be a yeast infection or a fungal infection which require different and prescription measures.

A&D ointment is my goo of choice. Clear so that it doesnt leave white sticky ick all over everything. Actually seems to heal diaper rash instead of just cover it. Works great on big people too for anything rashy or irritated.

I tried Butt Paste and wasn't very happy with it, I swear by Destin. The original not the creamy. I also bought the store brand once and it wasn't the same and didn't work as well as the original Destin.
If the rash is really bad I use a little bit of Athletes Foot Cream (Lotramin or the store brand)on her butt along with the Destin, that always clears it up fast.
Good Luck.:)

I used Penetan but any Zinc cream should work well.

I usually ended up getting some Nystatin cream from the doctor. It always seemed like nothing else ever worked.

I like desitin and A & D ointment. But the A&D I use more to prevent it and desitin when it occurs.

Lotrimim AF ( may have misspelled the first word)
But the Athlete's Foot medication. My son just had a bad diaper rash it was red adn bleeding, the doctor say this and said to get the Lotrimin Af , and it has worked well with him.

I liked Desatin Original as well. Although, DD didn't get too many rashes. I would sometimes let her air dry on a towel and that seemed to help.

I've never used a cream, instead I used a medicated powder called Caldesene. It never let me down.

I think I'm in the minority, though. :)

I always used something called "corona" you get it at the pet supply store, it is a bag balm with lanolin and an aneseptic. One application and rash was gone in the am.

corona
