Dd shampoo issue

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Dd shampoo issue
By Rayelle on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 11:13 pm:

My 8 year old dd has oily hair. Her hair is very thick and tangles easily. I had oily hair growing up too so I thought I was on top of it. However she has eczema too and I think she has that on her scalp. She doesn't have lice but her head itches and it looks like cradle cap on her head. Does anyone know of a shampoo I should try? Baby shampoo isn't strong enough for the oil.

I would try a shampoo like Head and Shoulders. When my kids had cradle cap our ped. recommended a dandruff shampoo. It cleared it right up.

When I was in my 20's, I reacted to Aussie shampoo, and developed a psoriasis kind of thing on my scalp. I had to use a tar shampoo for a while, and had to scrape it like you would with cradle cap. Some shampoos still make me itchy, but nothing like that, thank goodness. It was horrible!

My 15 year old has quite oily hair, and it's also long. Our hairdresser to her to use Neutrogena for a while, and to never put conditioner near her scalp. That just adds to the oil, and it's really just needed for the ends.

Thanks! I think they just came out with a Head and Shoulders for oily hair but I wasn't thinking of it.

My ped recommended Nizoral for my son.

My son has had a type of cradle cap since he was a baby, he is 10 now and he still gets a lot of build up on the top of his scalp, and nothing has seemed to work to remove it! Until, the beautician who recently cut his hair recommended tea tree shampoo and scalp treatment conditoner by Paul Mitchell, it is sold only at a salon, and since nothing else has worked, I bought some, and I am sooo amazed!! Within 2 days the build up was gone!!! We have been trying to get rid of it for years, and this is the only thing that has completely gotten rid of it. It smells minty and my son says it feels good on his scalp when he uses it. I highly recommend this shampoo and conditioner!!!

There are other tea tree shampoos you can try as well. Two that I've personally used are Nature's Gate and Avalon Organics. I buy both at a local Farmer's Market type grocery store called Henry's, and I believe I've seen the Avalon Organics at CVS.

Neutragena T-Gel works well, as does the Neutragena T-Sal. (I've also used both.)
