Sick dd ?????

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Sick dd ?????
By Rayelle on Sunday, August 3, 2008 - 08:10 pm:

My 4 yr old was all set to go to a birthday party today and her stomach began hurting. She was really excited about the party so I knew she really must have felt bad to opt out. She had a little diarrhea. Later she was just screaming and crying about her stomach hurting and I could feel her stomach tense up while she sat with me. She then seemed fine for a while and then she went diarrhea again and the toilet was filled with blood. I have never seen anything like it. It was way more than in a case of fissures. She has been perfectly fine for a few hours now. I'm going to throw a call in to the dr in the morning but I was wondering if anyone has had a child with this before. I'm not too worried from what I've read but I am a little freaked.

That would freak me out and I probably would have taken her to the emergency room.

I second that, Dawn. I have never had that problem, but I think that would have warrented a visit to the ER and I don't take my kids to the doctor for very much.

How's your dd now?

She's completely fine. She didn't seem to be in any pain while she went. I read that bloody diarrhea can be a sign of infection and it was a problem if it kept happening but that just once usually means whatever it was has passed through. I am usually very hyper paranoid but since she seems to be behaving alright, playing, no fever, happy, normal the er didn't enter my mind.

The dr said even the fissures can cause what looks like alot of blood. She said to bring her in if it were to happen again so they could check for something like a food born illness but since she doesn't have a fever and is eating, acting normally she is likely okay. Weird.

Glad to know she is feeling better.
Did she happen to drink red kool-aid or red punch? This happened to my dd years ago. Her diarhea was bright red from the food coloring...it looked like blood! :)

Ditto Annie - anything with red dye will affect the color.......and some foods with certain dyes can make it look green or black.......
