Kids' absorbing minds!

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Kids' absorbing minds!

When Kaitlyn first started summer vacation I gave her a break from school related stuff and just let her have fun. It wasn't long before I realized she was bored as ever and needed some sort of stimulation. We started working on crafts and fun things and then I decided I would go ahead and start working on her sight words she'll learn in Kindergarten to get her prepared. It was to my surprise that she now knows 28 sight words taught in less than a week! They absorb things so easily. I was wondering if she was really learning them or just memorizing the books so I wrote the words down on flash cards and she breezed right through them. I am truly amazed. Now stories at bedtime are being incorporated with both of us each reading a book. :) She even reads them to Nathan. It's too cute.

That is a great age.. I love to see them learning so much.. Mine thing they know everything already! but that is what happens when they hit about 9!

That's great. Sounds like she's a smart one. Must get that from mom, huh?

My DD started doing this and by the time she started K she could read almost every Dr. Seuss book. She read the Eric Carle books, too. She really loved reading books to little brother. It was their special time to bond.
