Blisters in mouth?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Blisters in mouth?
By Melanie on Saturday, April 23, 2005 - 08:27 pm:

Okay Moms, I need some ideas on what this could be. Peyton (4 years) was complaining about her mouth hurting. I looked in her mouth and her tongue appears to be covered in blisters. She does have a fever, but no other rashes anywhere else. Hand, Foot, and Mouth?? What else?? TIA!

It does sound like hand, foot, mouth disease, try looking really closely at her hands and feet, sometimes the little bumps are very hard to see. Other than that though, I don't have any other ideas of what it could be. I hope she is feeling better soon though.

Sounds like HF&M to me. Painful for the little ones but usually goes away in a few days.

If there are no other symptoms (like the hands and feet with blisters) then I wouldn't say Hand foot and mouth. I would say something like yeast in her mouth...has she been on any antibiotics lately or anything? I am not sure, because I am not a doctor. Good Luck and I hope you get this figured out soon. :)

This is something I found..

Herpangina (mouth blisters)

You can do a search online to see what the HF&M blisters look like. They are tiny and white. They look like canker sores. I hope she feels better!

Jules used to get what Bobbie posted ALL the time when she was a kid. The ped. prescribed some *creamy/chalky* liquid med to rinse her mouth with when she had it. I think it was basically viral, she was one of those who were prone to fever blisters too. She doesn't get that anymore.

Thanks for the help everyone. She is in much better spirits today. Eve, the sores on the top of her tongue are small and white, but there is one near the tip of her tongue that is just huge-it looks like a big blister. She is actually eating this morning, albeit cautiously. Her hands and feet are completely clear. She still has a lowgrade fever. It never got up to the high temperatures that are often associated with HF&M. She was up a lot in the night and I actually ended up just staying in her bed with her.

Thanks for all the help. Although I did not get a chance to respond last night, I did come on to read your thoughts. Thanks for being there! :)

I hope she is back to normal soon! It sounds pretty painful- poor girl! :( I have no experience with this, but hope it goes away quickly for her.

I'm glad she's feeling better. I get painful white bumps on my tongue when I have too much citrus, and pineapple causes them every time. Maybe it's a food sensitivity?

Sounds like coxsakie to me (hand foot and mouth). Ds #1 had it last May. The ped had him gargle Benadryl (don't swallow it though). He called it "Poor man's antiseptic." It's very painful. Hope she is better soon. It takes about a week (and it is VERY contagious so keep her away from others)>
