Sort of a funny...sort of a vent...

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Sort of a funny...sort of a vent...

Connor has some new "friends" around here at the apartments but I won't let him play with them without me around. (One kid threw a rock at his 3 yr old sister. Ugh.) The parents around here are quite negligent in my opinion...but anyway... when 2 new kids were out and about, they showed him a hiding place behind a bush and he did everything they did. Crouch, giggle, etc. Then, when Scott came home, Connor said, "Bye bye mommy! Have fun with Daddy!"

Meaning...mommy, I'm having fun here. See ya later!!! Is that time coming soon?????????????? My mom didn't let me out of her sight until I was at least 7. The other day, he tried to go into someone else's apartment since our doors look all the same! There's no way he would find his way back to our place!!!!! It was a good laugh though!! He felt comfortable having new buddies... LOL

But...I'm out there parenting while the parents are inside smoking, talking on the phone...makes me angry, but at least I'm out doing my job!

I'm glad to hear he's making new friends!

Yes, some parents are just not meant to be parents.
We were just at the park. My dd had soccer practice and my ds played on the playground. He's six, and a good boy so I just glanced over every few minutes to see what he was doing and makeing sure I could see him. There were a bunch of other little kids on the playground but I did not see any parents watching them. THe playground is across the street from some duplex houses. So the parents probably just let the kids go play and do not watch them.

Like I said, some people just should not be parents.

I'm glad Connor is having a great time with his new friends.

I just started letting my boys have a little more freedom outside, and they are 7 & 9. In our old neighborhood, Josh was only 3 when we moved in, so he was never outside without me. I always ended up watching the whole neighborhood. One of the ladies let her 5 year old twins play out front with no supervision. It drove me nuts. I always had to tell them to get out of the street. In my opinion, way to young to be out front with no one watching them.

too cute!

that whole when do you let them play alone thing is tough. honestly with my dd she was allowed into our backyard at age 6 when I was in kitchen and could see her, but never in the front yard. And we moved by time she was 10 and still none of them played out front without supervision. But we moved, the area is just different I know my neighbors well, there are lots of kids playing and I can't recall the last time I just hung out to supervise. I do go out and play flashlight tag and such, and sometimes we have a wine tasting in one of the driveways..LOL. But really rules are just different with the first child and just having a sibling and not playing alone helps that some too.
