How do I thicken rose bush branches?

Moms View Message Board: Arts, Crafts, Gardening and Ideas: How do I thicken rose bush branches?

I started growing my rose bushes about a year and half ago, so they're well established. They are fully flowering, healthy apart from the occasional black spot, have lots of growth and new tips all over the place. My problem is that allthough I trim then back and tie them up a bit they grow so well that the branches are having trouble supporting the weight. Because I have tied the branches together to stop them collapsing the bush seems to be growing into a rose tree. Does anyone know how to thicken up the branches of my rose bush? I'd appreciate any tips.

ok, I can see we don't have many rose enthusiasts here. Never mind, I found out the old school way, went to my neighbour, Craig the landscape expert. lol
