Decorating ideas please...

I am in the process of moving kids around upstairs and redecorating bdrms for them. My oldest ds is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and wants his bdrm decorated in this theme. So my question for now is...How to paint his room? The colors are Blue, Silver, White. He wants his room silver and I say it should be white with some blue/silver paraphenalia (sp?) hanging on the white walls? I think the silver walls may be a bit too much. What do you think? He also wants his cieling painted, I am a little nervous about that as well. Any suggestions?

TIA! :)

I would first ask--How big of a deal is painting to you? If it's an easy task and you don't mind repainting the room eventually, I would let your DS go to town with the paint. I would probably go with a silver-grey color though. I think the silver would be too reflective covering everything. I know, we don't mind painting a room, so we would let DD paint any color she wanted. Have fun!:)

I would paint the walls blue & you can use silver on the furniture, if you don't mind painting it. I don't like white walls, personally, but you could paint the trim white. It might be fun to have a huge helmet painted on one of the walls.
What kind of ceiling is it?

Thanks ladies. :)

Eve, I dont mind painting at all. I actually enjoy it (when I finally decide on a color--lol).
I wondered about doing one wall silver or the ceiling silver?

Emily7, it isnt a huge room, so I was worried about the dark blue walls making the room look too small? What do you think? He is moving into the room thats a bonus room over the garage and it is a strange shaped smaller room. He was wanting a STAR on one of the walls. I dont know if I can manage a star or a helmet (i am not exactly an artist). But they sound like cool ideas!

The trim is already white--the walls are a light taupe color right now.

BTW--painting his furniture isnt really an option... I just stained all of it a natural color 3 yrs ago and am not interested in changing it. However, that is a cute idea!!! (painting it silver)

I'd do opposite walls silver-grey and one wall blue. There are plenty of places to get the Dallas logo and you could make a transparancy to trace up on the wall. Since it is just a star, the straight lines would be easy to tape off. What kind of ceiling do you have? If it is the "popcorn" type, don't paint it. It's definitely not worth the effort. If it's just like the walls, I'd do silver-grey up there too. I'd keep the trim white to break up the color.

Well, I decided to let him go with all grey (even the ceiling) and then we will come up with some sort of blue star/helmet. The ceiling has a slant on either side of the room (strange room) and it will be cool to hang something there (like a jersey). Ok, I am feeling much braver!

Thanks everyone!! :) I am getting excited about painting another room!

I think the grey sounds great. Then you have a pretty much blank slate so you can hang decorations or paint a huge star on the wall in blue. Have fun!

It's just walls and paint and time.

And they grow up much too fast. My mom wouldn't let me do anything cool with my room as a kid. Solid straight curtains, furniture square in the room, solid light colored walls. It's taken me a lot of years to get over that.
DD's (age 3) room is a really bright purple with pink castle and princess trim and decorations. Really loud busy princess curtains. She picked out most of it, helped as much as a 3 yo is capable, and absolutely loves it. In a few years she'll get tired of it and want to change. But she'll remember it was fun.

One time we were painting dss's room. They wanted it a really dark blue and white. We painted a couple of white walls and a couple of blue walls. Somewhere in the process the boys stuck their hands in the paint and starting putting their hands on the wall. I started to freak then sat down and watched. They loved it and it stayed that way until we finished the upstairs and they moved to new rooms. We had to paint over that to paint the room for new baby dd to arrive but I hated to.

Have fun with it.
