Need some good ideas

Moms View Message Board: Arts, Crafts, Gardening and Ideas: Need some good ideas

i posted on the parenting board about spring break blues. Can anyone give me some ideas about things we can do around the house to keep the kids busy? My dd LOVES crafts!! I just need some new ideas! We have done some of the little sets like candle making and jewelery kits, but i would like some things we could make from scratch.

Do they have many craft stores over there, stupid question I know.

I take our girls to the craft store and the 2 oldest pick out something new to do and so do I. That's 3 projects. We have A C Moore and Michaels. I try to spend about 5-7 a piece.

Maybe you should take her (if you have stores nearby) and browse around, look at new things she would like to try. And set a money limit;)

Good luck,

our spring break just started (home for 11) days, I am excited. We are rearranging furniture in several rooms.

good luck and hang in there! Keep us posted!

We have 3 dds (ages 11,8 and 3) so there's always something to do with someone:)

Actually asking if we have a craft store near by wasn't stupid, lol. The closest one is about 2 hours from here! I was looking for them in the phone book and then using yahoo maps. The BX on base has a few isles of craft stuff so i may go by there tomorrow and see what we can get into! That why i was hoping for some new ideas. Thanks!!

My son loves making wind socks. I buy a sheet of paper foam (you can use construction paper) and he decorates them, we punch holes in the bottom and string lots of ribbon through it so it hangs down long, we also use a piece of ribbon in the top for it to hang from.

Buy a large Tera Cotta Pot and have her paint it and plant some flowers in it. I don't know what the weather is like there but you can always keep it inside for a while.

Guy with Grass hair. Use a pair of nude colored panty hose, put grass seed in the top, fill with potting soil till it is round like a head, pulla small bit of potting soil and hose away from "face" to make a nose wrap a rubber band around it (it looks like a little ball) do the same for ears, use googley eyes, and red fabric paint to make a mouth. Put him on a plate and Water him and the grass will start to grow in a few days and will look like hair. We had so much fun trimming ours..we had a few stray grass seeds and had to "tweez" them.

I'll try to think of some more, check out familyfun.com they have tones of ideas!

We are going to make sand art vases. You just buy some cheap glass vases from Wal-mart (or where ever.....walmart has them for 99 cents a piece)
Get some craft glue. Buy some colored sand.
Use a paint brush to apply glue to vase then sprinkle sand over it. You can also use a q-tip to draw designs on the vase and then sprinkle with sand. They turn out so cute and are inexpensive. They also look cute for spring! Would be a great gift for a neighbor. Just put a fresh picked tulip in the vase and deliver. I'm going to look for a picture of one to post.

OK, I can't find a picture....but they really are cute! I'll have to post a picture after we do ours :)
