Adhd meds/first of school

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Children with Special Needs: Adhd meds/first of school

My ds has been on concerta for nearly 2 years and we've only needed the dosage changed once. The past few weeks have been stressful and difficult. I didn't want to jump to the conclusion that it was something to do with his adhd. It seems he has been giving more lip and attitude than ever since he turned 9. Well, the past few days it became VERY obvious it's adhd, the lack of impulse control, distractability, hyper activity and to top it off tomorrow is the first day of school. It's only been since Thursday that it was definitely like it was before he was ever diagnosed. I'd say for him it seems the hyper activity is to a lesser degree than the impulse control which in a school setting means calling out, etc. It's only a half day I'm just worried with it being a new year and a new teacher and everything. I hope I can get him into the doctor soon. Just venting my worries.

I know what you are going through. My son has been on Concerta for about a year now and I struggled so much with having to up his meds about a month ago. But the doctor said that it's normal since he is growing and the amount of medicine that his is on is very low. Since we upped it, he has done wonderful!!

I was like that the first time, but after 4 it is getting easier.. My dd 14 can't sit in a chair (literally) unless her meds are working right. I defineately know what you mean about not being able to get into the dr soon enough. It is really hard to get into our dr at the beginning of a school year, I guess everyone is doing physicals or something.

I hope you can get him in soon and he doesn't have any issues with school until then.

I can't get him in until Sept. 3rd. I wrote a not to his teacher telling her what's going on in case she wonders. He said yesterday was good it was only a half day. He goes to the Y after school and he lost his beach towel and forgot where he put his bathing suit. His grandma works there and had one of his suits in her car at least. I feel bad you tell he is just all over the place at times.
