Went to look at the special school and it was nice.

The only thing he didn't get everyday is gym, which he gets every day now.

The kids were very well behaved.

I stood outside the class and watched the whole two hours. I got some looks but it is quite a decision to make after he was in the lazy teachers special ed class.

Teacher wasn't lazy or mean. Assistants looked friendly. What a difference from the last year where he had lazy teacher.

There were 4 girls in th class and 8 boys altogether. The girls made it a more mellow class if you know what I mean. John has no girls in his class now to mellow out the class.

The special class was more structured than regular ed. They do more activities.

They did story time with associated art project.

Playdoh type activity. (Actually it was some other thing not playdoh sort or stretching and bouncy. Looked like fun.)

Motor activitiy like a parade - jump then skip then wiggle hips the crawl to music.

Snack time.

There were more adults than children in the classroom. (Push in ot or speech teachers)

The kids half were 1 year older than john and looked like very good role models.

I think I might let him go there.

He isn't getting story time where he is... Just found that out. He needs circle time to learn to sit and listen to the teacher.

If I sign him up for two activities like sports and karate that should be enough exercise for the week and it will get warm for the park soon.

The day is only a 2 and 20 minutes long. Ds was exhausted at the end. I guess it was too different and overstimulating for him. He was scared of their bathroom. Finally bribed him with a ballon to use the bathroom and wash his hands after about 30 minutes.

We both slipped and fell on our butts going to the car. He will have to take the bus because the parking is ridiculous, but the school is only 15-20 minutes drive from my house.

I refuse to put him on the bus for 1 hour like I did for 1 1/2 years when he was little. So it looks good anyway. Complete change from what I was thinking.

That's great, Feona. Sounds like a great school. You're such a great mom to be doing all you can for your son. WTG! :)

Husband even thinks it sounds good. They really train they for stimulating classroom. I thought it was going to be understimulating like his old classroom and this if anything was overstimulating. I never believe in understimulating my son. He always gets used to things if you persist in introducing things and structure.

His new school might start on Monday. Yikes that was quick. Thought it was going to take a month or more... I guess he needs a circle time everyday so I should focus on that.

Feona, good to hear it went well. Also good to hear that you went with an open mind. Keep us posted on when he starts!
