NOW, it doesn't remember me at all! LOL The place for my name and password is blank each time I post. I have to enter them in each time I go to post. I checked my profile, and it does say to remember me.
Ya'll wouldn't be trying to get rid of me would you??? ;)

Jann, I ran some diagnostics on the board, & it came up "no errors." I checked with the people who created this software & gave them all the info. They said that since it's only happening with the same 2 or 3 users out of the 120+ users that are currently posting, then it must be something with the settings in your browser, rather than the board software.

I'll try to work with you to see if we can eliminate a few of the causes. First of all, which browser are you using?

By Jann on Wednesday, March 6, 2002 - 10:27 am:

IE6. This is too weird! LOL

REPLY FROM BUBBELS:
Click "Tools" on your browser toolbar, "Internet Options", and then "Security." Click "Custom Level". Scroll down & make sure that accept cookies is set "Enabled" for all cookie fields (temporary, permanent.) Let me know if your browser is already set this way, however.

I don't have an "accept cookies" field under custom or advanced. I had checked advanced prior to posting to you, and thought it was odd that it's not there.

-----------------------------------
BTW,
I had this same problem and the following fixed it in IE 6:
(the menus are slightly differnet in 6)
Tools:Internet Options

Click Privacy Tab and Advanced

Check the "Override Cookie Handling..." checkbox
and the lower section should now NOT be greyed out.

On the "First Party Cookies" side check the Accept checkbox and the "Always allow session cookies" checkbox.

Please let us know if

(a)You were running IE6
and
(b)Did this fix the problem

Thanks,
Feona

Karen - Take notice. Don't you have IE6?

Good to know, Feona. I haven't upgraded to IE6 & was unaware of this change in the browser. I'm glad this will be on the permanent help board for others who have IE6 and who will undoubtedly encounter this problem.

Ya'll are just the best!

By Feona on Thursday, March 7, 2002 - 03:31 pm:

I did notice one other thing:

Make sure the "Third Party Cookies" is set to "accept" or "prompt".

If set to "block" , your username password will not be saved

I do have IE6....I just changed the settings, will let you know if I continue to have a problem.

Thanks!

For the past two days, when I try to post I get an "authentication error", I RE-TYPE my name and password that automatically come up when I post and everything is fine. Why is it doing that? What can I do to change it?

REPLY FROM BUBBELS:
Hi, Jann:
Your username & password are reliant on cookies. The problems you're encountering have to do with the way you're handling cookies in your browser and/or your profile.

For instance, every now & then when I do a little puter "housecleaning" & delete cookies I find that I have to log in manually again the first time. Also, if you don't have "allow cookies" selected in your browser settings, you'll have to manually log in each time. But from your description, it sounds like the problem is occurring sporadically, & I'd be willing to bet it happens after you've cleaned your cookies in your computer. When I clean cookies, if I have the time I'll actually scan through the list & save those cookies I'd like to keep & delete the rest. It's not really that important to do though, since it's probably easier to just manually log in once here & reset the cookie that way.

If your browser cookie settings are correct, & you're not clearing your cookies very often, but it still happens, then check your profile to be sure that the "Remember my username and password in a cookie" box IS checked and that the "Clear cookie when I close my browser" box is NOT checked. If it is, then when you close your browser, you will have to manually log in the next time you visit Momsview. If you don't mind manually logging in once each session & have other reasons for not wanting the cookie to be stored on your computer, then I'd just leave it as it is.

Hope this helps!
