I can not make pies which is amazing to me considering how much time I spent in the kitchen with my mom as a child. I decided to post my little mishap for you ladies. Laugh away!

My daughter wanted to bake a pie and I finally gave in yesterday. I bought pre-made unbaked pie shells. I purchased the pie shells because as I stated earlier I can not make pies. I followed the directions on the package exactly. I mean I read them 3 times. It stated to defrost the pie shells by removing them from the tins onto wax paper for 15 minutes before filling them. I placed them onto the baking sheets and filled them and placed them in the oven. A few moments later smoke was coming from the kitchen. I opened the oven and the shells had morphed into flattened discs and the filling had spilled out of the shells, out of the baking sheet, and all over the oven! Looking back, I guess I should have put the defrosted pie shells back into their tins, fill them, and then place them onto the baking sheet. Okay, I know you are laughing. It's okay. I should have known better but literally the directions were vague and never mentioned replacing the defrosted pie shells back into the tins before filling them. What was I thinking! What a huge mess!

Couldn't you have defrosted them without removing them?

What a mess, though! Ugh.

It's not any dumber than failing to remove the cardboard from beneath a frozen pizza and putting that in the oven, though! (guilty!)

You'll have to try again with the pies.

They never mentioned perferating the shells? I always make tiny fork holes to allow the air to escape.

I have a great pie crust recipe. It is so easy and no need for a rolling pin. You put in all in one dish from making it to cooking it. I got a new computer so let me check to see if I transfered the file over.

Christine, that's very funny! :)

LOL, so you tried to make the pies without a pie dish?? That's funny!! I make great pies, but can't make pie crust from scratch for some reason, I spent one Thanksgiving eve making batch after batch (never coming out right) before I said "Never again", I use the refridgerated pie crusts now. Unroll them, place them in a Pyrex dish, and fill.

I can make pie crust! LOL! I don't think it ever quite looks as perfect as a Martha Stewart creation, but I always get compliments, whenever I make pies! My favorites are pumpkin, apple, and Door County cherry!
