SHERRIED MUSHROOMS

1 lb fresh button mushrooms
cleaned and dry with trimmed stems
¼ c. butter
1/3 c. cream sherry
salt to taste
freshly ground pepper to taste


In a medium heavy skillet melt butter over low to medium heat. Slice each mushroom in half and saute in butter until golden. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add sherry, cover and simmer about 20 minutes. Great as a side dish with red meats.
