Monkey Bread!

I'd never heard of Monkey Bread, but apparently it's a childhood favorite for lots of people. I made some this morning, and it was a huge hit!! You pull the pieces off and eat with your hands, lotsof ooey, gooey fun!

I used a different recipe today, but this is the one I am going to use next time, as it has some slight modifications that I think will make it goo-ier, LOL! The kids can help, which makes the wait for this yummy treat more bearable.

4 cans refrigerator biscuits (about 40)
1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
1/2 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup pecans, raisins and/or coconut, if desired (I used chopped walnuts)

Cut each biscuit into 4 pieces. Pour sugar and cinnamon into a plastic bag and mix.

Add biscuit pieces, several at a time; shake to coat well.

Place pieces in a buttered tube or Bundt pan until all are used.

Sprinkle layers with nuts, raisins or coconut.

Bring brown sugar and butter to a boil in saucepan. Cool 10 minutes, then pour over top of biscuits.

Bake at 350F for 45 minutes. (I cooked mine for 30 min at 350F, which is how long many of the recipes called for. I suggest checking after 30 minutes) Allow to cool 5-10 minutes before removing from pan. Turn upside down to serve.

Crystal,
I bought the refrigerator biscuits. I should have asked before, but I got the Grands Biscuits, will that work? I bought the bigger cans that I think have 8 biscuits per can.
I plan on having my kids help make them on Saturday morning.

I hope they end up as good as they sound!

Just cut them into smaller sections. They are suppose to be about one inch balls or equivilant in that size.

I used the regular size biscuits, cut into quarters. I don't think it'll hurt to use the Grands, but I wouldn't use them for the recipe, just because you'd have to cut them up more. Jewlz is right, when you cut them up, make sure they are about an inch each.

I made a second batch this past weekend for my best friend and her 2 boys, as she's been away and we were spending the day together. It was even better, because this time I poured some of the melted butter mixture in layers, which makes everything nice and buttery and soft. They are just melt-in-your-mouth good! Let me know how yours turns out!!!

I will just use the kitchen shears and cut them into bite sized pieces. I won't use all 4 cans. I'll just play that by ear.

I'll let you know how they come out!
