Fallujah

Moms View Message Board: The Fox Hole (War-Related Discussion): The Front Line (Personal Opinions on Hot Topics/Debating Allowed Here): Fallujah
By Colette on Friday, April 2, 2004 - 04:23 pm:

In light of the horrific violence against Americans the other day, what do you think our response should be?

By Marg on Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 07:02 am:

I don't know Colette. I'm taking you are speaking of the Iraq incident?

I pray for them everyday over there. I don't know what will happen or if there will be more terroristic violence against U. S. Citizens here and abroad. Which I have a feeling it will happen whether we are over there or not due to the amount of hatred they have for us.

By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 09:45 am:

I pray for them (and us) every day also. As for the Fallujah incident (murders), I am waiting and hoping our on-the-ground intelligence and troops can figure out how to deal with that hotbed of anti-US activity without going in and killing a lot of innocents. The sad thing is that it only takes a small core of dedicated terrorists to do these kinds of things and because they are so violent and so willing to kill, they can terrorize entire areas into not acting against them or informing against them.

This is such a terribly sad and frightening mess, and I continue to be amazed that the administration didn't realize that events like this were a likely consequence of starting a war in an area where suicide terrorism is an accepted action and where the killing of innocents (which usually happens in terroristic actions) is considered acceptable.

By Annie2 on Saturday, April 3, 2004 - 08:56 pm:

I'm sure the administration realized horrific events would occur after the start of a war, Ginny. Saddam had to be taken out of power or his regime would only have continued to surpress, murder, rape, mutilate, starve, terrorize.....etc his people and other nations would still be in grave danger. This is a rocky start for a new beginning for the Iraqi people.
Let's blame these deaths on the sadistic animals who committed them, not on the administration.

I agree with you Annie. If we didn't stop him now, maybe we would end up with several 9-11's. These people are so full of hate that there really is no way around the horrible events excpet to do as much as we can to eliminate them. I think its sad that anyone would be blamed other than those who commited the act. We complain now that we didn't do anything to stop the 9-11 when there may have been threats but now we complain that we DID do something first to Suddam who has been a treat for so many years! WE just need to stop blaming the president and the military and accept that maybe we DON'T know whats best! We just have to trust that someone does. We have lost many people in this war and i pray for all the families but its MUCH less than the vietnam war. We should be thankful for that.

I DON'T blame the military - I think they are in a very difficult situation and doing their best.

As for 9-11, the President himself has said that there is no evidence linking Saddam Hussei or Iraq with 9-11.

By Ladypeacek on Sunday, April 4, 2004 - 09:58 am:

Sorry Ginny, i was not refering to anyone here when i said people blame the miltary. I should have been more specific. I hear so much negative about the military here ( England ) and it just makes me angry! Also as far as 9-11, i know that it was not Suddam but he is more then capable and willing. He may not have done that but i do believe he would have done something similar very soon, I think Bin Laden just did it first!

I understand, Kenna. The English class system still sees the enlisted soldier as "Tommy" (read Rudyard Kipling), and the officers entirely a "class apart" - unless, of course, the officer came up through the ranks, which is fairly rare.

It must be very difficult for you being in England, knowing that a very large part of the populace didn't support Blair's support of Bush. And when the English demonstrate, they esclate things a lot higher than most demonstrators here.

By Ladypeacek on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 04:39 pm:

Yeah there are many times when there is notice on base forbidding us to go to London for the week due to demonstrations. There are protesters outside the bases occasionally and there are people to call and let us know. They spit on the cars and throw things. It is weird, i have never cared about politics, never even wanted to vote because i felt like i was just picking the lesser of evils. But since we got here i guess i got this overwhelming feeling of having to defend our country. I have to do it so often. I know there are SOOOO many things wrong with our government but at the same time we have sooo much more than most. You learn to appreciate those things when you are in a country that shows us so much aggression!
