How to Choose Cheap Vacation Destinations....(or at least...not so expensive)
Be Realistic and Keep an Open Mind

If you're working with a tight budget you certainly don't want to choose a destination that will overextend you, or worse yet, you don't want to find yourself stressing about money while you're supposed to be enjoying yourself on vacation. So start with places that are close to home. The further you have to travel, the more money it's going to cost you just to get there.

* Do you have a family member, or work with someone who owns a vacation home somewhere nearby? Consider offering to rent their place for a week or a weekend.

* Do you live near a popular vacation destination? The shore, a state park, a historical city, an amusement or water park.

* Are you a member of an organization that's sponsoring a trip to somewhere? A ski weekend. A few days at an amusement park. A beach trip.

* Vacation with another family. Invite another family to share your vacation, and therefore, share the expense. Choose a destination that works well for the group. This is a really good money saver when you're looking to rent a vacation home.

* Ask friends, family and coworkers. The best frugal vacation information most moms get comes from other moms, so ask those closest to you for their family vacation ideas. Where is their family headed this year? Do they know about a great deal or vacation opportunity?

Then I book direct.

By Mommy3girls on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 - 10:38 am:

Well - the separated DH left this morning for a 4 day vacation with his new girlfriend. OUCH!

I went to grand canyon. I think Yellowstone is better for two weeks and then side trip to Grand Canyon. I want to go back to Yellowstone for a month.

oh you said grand canyon of pa. What is that?

I am sorry about your husband. Just hope the girls don't feel any of the hurt. So I hope the best for both of you. My heart hurts for both of you. you can't live with them and you can't live without them. Why can't life be simply?

One thing you could do - is stay with someone you know & save the $$ on the hotel bill!!! I'm trying to set something like that up for me! Either California or North Carolina! :)

Also people swap houses online....

I have the store that does it. It is free.

I think it is home away.

Love the swapping houses idea.

Some of my favorite vacations involved staying in someone's house for a week in the US or abroad.

There is a web site for that if you are interested. I can get it for you.
