Newbie from Ohio

Moms View Message Board: New to Moms View? Introduce Yourself!: Newbie from Ohio
By Nomdeplume_75 on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 - 01:41 pm:

Hello all, my name is Tina and I'm a sahm of two great kids. My son just turned 12 and my daughter is 10. Both kids are very active with Scouts and sports so they keep me on my toes most days. My daughter has CAPD, dyslexia, and ASD. We've found a WONDERFUL school and it's changed her life, as well as our family forever.

I became a sahm again, after returning to work for a few years. I was in a nasty car accident where I suffered spinal injuries. Long story short, I haven't worked since, I'm working hard on my PT, and while I miss some things about working I enjoy being home again. Our lives totally changed after my accident and I've been given a whole new perspective. Life's short, love, laugh, and enjoy!

I am a single mom so being a sham makes things a bit rough sometimes. Since I'm home again I've decided to go back to school. I'm a dual major in psychology and law. I've been an avid supporter of domestic violence causes for many years now and it is my hope that my degree will only prove to strengthen my work for DV causes. When I'm not at a doctors appointment or PT I am usually volunteering with my local DV shelter and state DV org. I run many fundraising, awareness, and support programs for them each year. I also speak around the state of Ohio on the issue of domestic violence. I also volunteer a lot of time to my daughter's school.

Lets see, I love art.. of any kind really, I paint, sculpt, get into photography, I enjoy gardening (but now with my back I stick to houseplants) I love a good mystery and live sports, anything accept for boxing/fighting. I think that's really about it. If you want to know more about me, just ask!

Welcome, indeed. Wow - you have had an "interesting" life, and I'm sure that at times you wish it were a lot less interesting.

I think you'll find lots of people here who share one or more of your interests. I myself was a WOHM single mom of 3 (still am, but now they are grown up and only one of them lives with me - but that's another story). I also love good mysteries, have no use for sports, and used to enjoy gardening until my arthritic knees took over.

I think you'll like it here.

Welcome to the group. Sounds like you have a full life! I'm a WOHM mom of 2. My older daughter is 18 and a freshman in college and my younger daughter is a sophomore in high school. She just turned 16. We live in WI.

A few years ago, we drove through the top edge of Ohio, to meet an email friend, that I'd known for quite a few years, and then we continued on, to Niagara Falls.

Thank you for the welcome ladies! :) I have led a interesting and full life, every bit of it has made me who I am today so I can't really dwell and point toward regret, even when it comes to the rougher moments.

You know, I've lived in Ohio for 10 years now and I've never gone farther north than Twinsburg. I have always wanted to go to Niagra Falls though! I live about an hour from Columbus. I drive south more than I drive north due to having family in KY.

Last summer, we took a vacation up to Northern WI. I had driven up there, once before, but it was rainy and foggy, so I didn't get a good view of Lake Superior. When we went on vacation, it was beautiful and sunny every day, so we got great views. After a little time spent in Ashland/Bayfield, and a cruise around the Apostle Islands, off of the coast of WI, we went to Duluth, MN and Superior, WI, and hung out there for a few days.

I'd never been to Duluth, MN before and was surprised at what a big city it was. All of my life, I thought it was just a little hick town, in northern MN! LOL!

Then we traveled up the edge of MN, almost to the Canadian border. I've really never been that far north before, either, in my life! That northern point is about 12 hours from my house, too! Man that was a LONG drive, to come home that day. It's very pretty up there, though, and I hope to go to Duluth again sometime! During the summer, they have a lot more daylight, than we do, in southern WI! LOL!

I'd been through Ohio one other time in my life, maybe 1978, when my family drove to Washington, DC. We drove from WI, to Youngstown, OH, where we spent the night, and then drove on to Washingon, DC. That was a fun vacation, too.

Welcome, I am from Ohio too.. There are a couple of us on here, actually. I am in North Central, a little more than an hour north of Columbus.

I am the mother of four. A 18 year old daughter (graduated, taking year off), 16 year old son (10th grade), and 11 year old twin girls (5th grade). I have been with my husband for 20 years this June.

Hope you enjoy the site.. Many of us have been together for years and we love having new people to learn about/talk to.
